COLUMBIA CITY — Ivy Tech Community College announced July 12 that its college administration, faculty, and staff will be hosting community receptions this summer in five northeast Indiana cities, including the first reception in Columbia City Thursday.
According to Chancellor Jerrilee Mosier, the Columbia City location, 220 Frontage Drive, will offer 12 classes.

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Consolidated School Corp-oration will have a slightly different look this fall — particularly as it relates to the helms of several of its schools.
The corporation’s Board of School Trustees has voted to transfer Columbia City High School Principal Gregg Goewert to the position of activities coordinator at Indian Springs Middle School.

SOUTH WHITLEY — With the south wall of the Green Parrot now repaired in compliance with the South Whitley’s unsafe building ordinance, Utilities Manager Dennis Eberhart voiced his concerns on the vacant lot where the now-demolished Hicks and Deaton building shared a common wall.
“There is a hole where the (Hicks and Deaton) building use to be,” Eberhart said.
Council Vice President Tonya Warner said the lot should be the responsibility of the property owner, with the area being graded and leveled.

SOUTH WHITLEY — In March of last year, the tight-knit Whitko community lost a very special girl — Kaylin Michelle Doggendorf.
Doggendorf was taken from her home in the middle of the night, and what started out as a search and rescue mission ended in tragedy when the 14 year-old was found raped and strangled to death.

LARWILL — The sewer budget and current maintenance issues were addressed at the Larwill town council meeting Thursday evening as one pump recently malfunctioned, according to sewer maintenance manager Larry Sechrist.
“I called Roto-Rooter, and cloth and (baby) wipes stopped it (pump),” Sechrist said.
