Prosecutor: Creech to plead guilty

COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City woman charged with drug crimes and the neglect of a dependent who was scheduled to face trial has decided to plead guilty, according to the Whitley County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Janel M. Creech, 37, has been in the Whitley County jail since Jan. 11 after being charged Jan. 7 with manufacturing methamphetamine and other drug-related offenses in connection with a Jan. 3 incident that resulted in the death of her 5-month-old daughter.

Shake-up in South Whitley

SOUTH WHITLEY — Beginning in 2012, South Whitley government will have a completely different look and a longtime fixture in Town Hall will be no more.
After 26 years as clerk-treasurer of South Whitley, lifelong South Whitley native Mitch Winger will relinquish his seat to fellow Republican Bob Gould, who defeated the incumbent Winger Thursday night in a town caucus and runs unopposed for the Nov. 8 election.

City cars vandalized

The Columbia City Police Department is investigating a series of break-ins this morning.
Three vehicles had several windows broken out in the northwest area of Columbia City.
The incidents occurred at 503 N. Elm and 505 N. Oak streets.
