Mayoral hopefuls square off

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s three candidates for the town’s top elected position shared the stage Tuesday night and gave their views on everything from economic development to what should be done with the aging city swimming pool.
The event, the first debate involving the final three candidates for Columbia City mayor, was hosted by the Columbia City Kiwanis and packed a meeting room of the Peabody Public Library with more than 100 potential voters.

YMCA gives swim lessons to 3rd-graders

COLUMBIA CITY — When third-graders from throughout Whitley County line up at the local YMCA for free swimming lessons, they will reap the benefits of a contingent of veteran swim instructors.
The most seasoned of these aquatic experts is George Roth, who’s been teaching the finer points of treading water for the better part of four decades.
