COLUMBIA CITY â Tuesday morning brought the first sign of snowflakes. Blowing snow and sleet rode in on the northeast winds of Hurricane Sandy.
Columbia Cityâs Street Department already has snow in its sights. Superintendent Kelly Cearbaugh said the cityâs mechanic is currently checking the plows to ensure all is in working order before the blades are hooked onto city trucks.
âRight now we are still in leaf season,âsaid Cearbaugh. âBut once we are out of that, our box trucks will start making the transition from leaves to salt.â
COLUMBIA CITY â Grade A. That was the mark for three Whitley County Schools. Churubusco Elementary School, Coesse Elementary School and Columbia City High School all received an A ranking based on the Indiana Department of Educationâs (IDOE) annual evaluation.
According to the IDOE, more than 40 percent of Indianaâs schools received an A for the 2011-12 school year. The stateâs education department released the grading report Tuesday.
Columbia City High School saw an improvement from last yearâs mediocre rating of C and the year before when the school received a D grade.
