Winning an Emmy is the highest achievement in television.
One Whitley County man, with his team of co-workers, has won one of the coveted awards. JJ Geiger, formerly of Columbia City, won for his work entitled “Openhouse.", which can be viewed on the LX-TV Openhouse Homepage
“I worked as a producer/editor and won the Emmy in the category of ‘Information/Public Affairs Series (more than 50 percent remote)’,†said Geiger. He worked alongside of Janel Tamares, Julee Margulies Metz and Eric Michael Wong.

COLUMBIA CITY – The YMCA Rapids Swim Team will be hosting a chicken/beef/vegan noodle dinner on Feb. 24 from 5:30 to 8:00pm at Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The dinner will include choice of Chicken, Beef or Vegan noodles, mashed potatoes, salad, roll, drink and dessert. Presale tickets are $6.00 and $7.00 at the door. Children under 4 are free. “I worked as a producer/editor and won the Emmy in the category of ‘Information/Public Affairs Series (more than 50 percent remote)’,†said Geiger.
He worked alongside of Janel Tamares, Julee Margulies Metz and Eric Michael Wong.
“The crew submitted three segments from the show which airs regionally on NBC in 10 to 15 different markets,†said Geiger.
Columbia City's boys basketball team lost to DeKalb with a last-second shot earlier this season. The Eagles face the Barons in the first round of sectionals Tuesday. Thursday morning's fog has delayed and canceled local schools. Whitley County Consolidated schools are canceled and Smith-Green Community is on a 3-hour delay. Whitko did not have a delay or cancellation.
Northeast Indiana has a DENSE FOG ADVISORY until 11 a.m. today.
COLUMBIA CITY – Dense fog that started as light icy precipitation in Northern Indiana is descending and spreading across Whitley County.
Icy roads north of Whitley County caused traffic accidents early today, while the pea soup fog is rapidly causing visibility issues across the area.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to take special precautions until conditions improve.
COLUMBIA CITY – Gasoline prices in Whitley County surged 25 cents overnight to $3.69 a gallon, causing Thursday morning consternation for local motorists.
Questions abound for tight-budgeted citizens who have been told to brace for $4 per gallon prices by Memorial Day – and perhaps $5 this summer.
As if on cue, the White House is scheduled to address American gas prices later Thursday.
