AUCTION: Benefit causes tails to wag

COLUMBIA CITY ­­ ­— The fur was flying Saturday night when bidding got competitive at the 13th Annual Humane Society of Whitley County Benefit Auction.
There were many items that had the crowd salivating, but when Rex Schrader of Schrader Real Estate and Auction stepped up to the microphone, the animals that would benefit from the auction were the true winners.
Preliminary results show approximately $17,000 was raised from the benefit.
Jeanne List, the auction’s clerk for the night, has been involved with the humane society since it started in Whitley County.

’BUSCO GAZEBO: Ceremony opens memorial

CHURUBUSCO — It stands like a beacon in the Churubusco Eagle Memory Garden. The gazebo is a new place for the community to enjoy. It was dedicated Thursday night.
“This beautiful gazebo is a pure tribute to the people of Churubusco,” said Steve Darnell, superintendent of Smith-Green Community Schools.
Cathy Petrie, SGCS board president, recited the history of this project.
“The idea of the Churubusco Eagle Memory Garden began two years ago with a terrible auto accident that tragically took the lives of CJSHS students Andy Spencer and Megan Young,” said Petrie.

FANTACULAR: CCHS choirs wow the crowd

COLUMBIA CITY ­­ ­— The choirs at Columbia City High School celebrated a year of success with an annual variety and talent show.
“Fantacular” has been a long-standing tradition at the school complete with individual and group acts. But to the seniors, this event marks the completion of their years in choir.
