VIP VISIT: Coats, Mourdock visit C&A Tool

U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock, left, and U.S. Sen. Dan Coats,right, stopped paid a visit to C&A Tool Engineering in Churubusco Friday morning. They were greeted by company president Dick Conrow.
The senator and senatorial candidate were there, according to a company press release, to discuss the healthcare reform package proposed by President Barack Obama.

WHITKO ARTISTS SHINE: Students garner art awards

SOUTH WHITLEY — For 28 years Whitko High School has celebrated budding artists.
Under the tutelage of Walt Malicki, students have been awarded many championships and honors.
This year was no different.
Competing against high school artists in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, Rebekah Brenneman won the American Vision Award. Danielle Graves won Gold Portfolio.
Competing in the State Resolution contest, held at the Indiana State House, was Keaton Irwin and Ivory West. They received the Republic of China Awards.

MAYOR'S RIDE

Motorcycles made their way from Fort Wayne to downtown Columbia City for the 2012 Mayor’s Ride on Sunday. The town square hosted vendors and motorcycle enthusiasts all to welcome the collective riders. Event organizers timed the ride to coincide with motorcycle safety month.

FIGHTING FOR A CURE: Event raises $ for cancer research

COLUMBIA CITY — Participants in Whitley County’s Relay For Life took to the Indian Springs Middle School track, Saturday, for 24 hours in an effort to raise funds for cancer research.
Each lap took them one dollar closer to finding a cure. Partnering with the American Cancer Society, those participating in the event walked as survivors, caregivers or for those who lost their battle to cancer. To make special the memory of those lost to cancer, caregivers released balloons into the sky.
