SOUTH WHITLEY â€“ The Whitley County Board of Commissioners held its regular meeting in a different environment Monday, as business was conducted in front of students from Whitko High School.
â€śI enjoy holding the meetings for the students,â€ť said County Commissioner Don Amber. â€śWe do this for the kidsâ€™ edification.â€ť
Amber said the commissioners occasionally held meetings at the South Whitley Library, but then it was suggested to move it to the school for students, particularly those attending a government class.
PIERCETON â€” A brand new sidewalk at Whitko High School was the culmination of a project coordinated by a WHS freshman, the results of which will propel the young man to elite status among his fellow Boy Scouts of America.
John Langmaid, Jr., 14, coordinated the sidewalk project as part of his quest to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, a designation he said will belong to him soon.
CHURUBUSCO â€” The Smith-Green Community School Corporationâ€™s Board of School Trustees had a full plate at its regular board meeting Monday night.
Various school programs, as well as technology upgrades and the schoolâ€™s ongoing construction project highlighted the boardâ€™s busy agenda.
Churubusco Elementary School Principal Shellie Miller recognized Erica Vogel as â€śTeacher of the Monthâ€ť Monday.
In the four years she has taught at CES, Vogel has helped with Extended Day Kindergarten, junior high language arts, K-2 intervention and intensive needs.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” A 20-year-old Churubusco man, Dallas Jones, was sentenced to 10 years, eight to served and two years suspended, in Whitley County Circuit Court Monday on a charge relating to methamphetamine.
Jones pleaded guilty Aug. 20 to manufacturing methamphetamine, a Class B felony, and he is also expected to pay a $200 Drug and Alcohol Countermeasure fee.
According to the Whitley County Drug Task Force Case Report, Officer Bill Brice reported July 17 receiving information concerning methamphetamine related trash in or around Jonesâ€™ residence at 156 Staunton Ave. in Churubusco.
