Veterans to be honored at county schools

COLUMBIA CITY — Although Veteran’s Day is observed Nov. 11, several schools will host veteran programs to honor service men and women.

Coesse Elementary School will once again invite parents and grandparents to its campus for a ceremony Friday at 12:45 p.m.

Peabody Public Library and Indiana Springs Middle School will hold a countywide event Sunday at 2 p.m.

This will be the 11th year for the ceremony.

Whitko High School will also recognize veterans in a program slated for Nov. 11 at 10:45 a.m.

IN COURT: Meth precursors warrant 2-year sentence

COLUMBIA CITY— A Columbia City man who was arrested on meth charges with his mother was sentenced in Whitley County Superior Court.

Robert W. Barnett, 22, was sentenced to two years at the Whitley County Jail, with 180 days to serve and the balance suspended, for possession of two or more precursors with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.

Barnett was released from the Whitley County Jail Oct. 22, having served half of his time under the day-for-day credit system.

He was also fined $200.

A charge of unlawful sale of a precursor was dismissed against Barnett by the state.
