Both men are from Ohio and are currently charged with receiving stolen property.

HOMESCHOOLING: Making home an academic stage

COLUMBIA CITY — More than two million American children are homeschooled.

This number continues to rise as public school funding, education quality and safety cause concern for some parents.

Some families choose to homeschool for religious reasons. Homeschooling lets parents reinforce their personal values and beliefs in a school day environment.

“It doesn’t really take a village to raise a child,” said mother Charity Adair. “It takes parents who are involved.”

SOUTH WHITLEY WASTEWATER: Pipes keep discussion flowing for town council

February 19, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY — South Whitley has a newly operational wastewater treatment plant.

Town council members were informed last week that as of Jan. 24, the project had reached a substantial completion status and is operational.

There are still some minor items to finish before the project is completed. Training on new equipment is underway and smaller items are being installed.

But the council was concerned with an entirely different pipe problem. A storm sewer pipe at 306 S. Main St. had collapsed, but the pipe’s failure seemed to originate with its installation.
