Indian Springs Middle School presented a junior version of the Broadway musical, âThe Music Man!â Thursday night.
The show tells the story of Harold Hill, played by Noah Wilson, and his shenanigans to swindle an Iowa town out of money by pretending to teach boys how to play band instruments.
In the meantime, he meets and falls in love with the townâs librarian Marian Paroo, played by Hunter Alles.
ISMSâs production was directed by Phil Genth and musical direction was by Karyle Genth.

STEUBEN COUNTY â A Columbia City man who was injured while working on Interstate 69 is on the road to recovery.
Reports say Brandon Morris, a 2004 Columbia City High School graduate, suffered a collapsed lung and several scrapes and bruises after he fell 13 feet off construction equipment on I-69 Thursday afternoon.
COLUMBIA CITY â The deadline for submitting nominations for the Whitley County Community Foundationâs Heart of Gold award has been extended to Wednesday.
Continuing an 18-year tradition, the Whitley County Community Foundation will host the annual Heart of Gold Awards in celebration of the people in the community who give of themselves to make life a little better for others.
âWhitley County is a great place to live and work thanks to the many thoughtful people who call it home,â said Chelsey Barrell of the Whitley County Community Foundation.
COLUMBIA CITY â Approximately 15 new voices joined the Whitley Community Childrenâs Choir (WCCC) at Thursday nightâs âtry itâ event.
A special evening was planned for students who might be interested in singing with WCCC.
Becky Walter, one of the choirâs leaders, called the event âa night to check us out.â
âWe just about doubled the amount of voices in our choir tonight,â Walter said. âIt is so much fun to see these kids grab a hold of an opportunity like this.â
COLUMBIA CITY â Columbia Cityâs Board of Works is taking some extra time making a decision about sending an employee for a certification.
Dave Sewell is Whitley Countyâs executive director for the Planning and Building Department, and there is a $1,500 certification available to him through a consulting firm, High Performance Government.
The firm is seeking all planning and building directors in Northeast Indiana to join forces in creating a more standardized process for permit application, as well as sharing other techniques to make Northeast Indiana a prime location for new business.
COLUMBIA CITY â With consistent budget cuts and little room for additional staff, many Indiana schools are struggling with class sizes.
Despite the difficulty, Whitley County Consolidated Schools has balanced out its classes â for now.
WCCS had a slightly higher enrollment this school year â two students â but as population grows and more students are attending school, changes may need to be made.
COLUMBIA CITYâ A Columbia City man accused of sexual misconduct with a minor pleaded guilty in Whitley County Circuit Court Monday.
Chais A. Wilkinson, 19, was arrested in September.
He was charged with sexual misconduct with a minor as a Class D felony. The minimum sentence is six months and the maximum is three years.
When reading the charges, Judge James Heuer said Wilkinson performed or submitted to fondling with a 14-year-old female victim.
Wilkinson will be sentenced Nov. 12 at 9 a.m.
CHURUBUSCO â With Churubusco leaders working on a revised garage sale ordinance, Wayne Yager, a resident, offered an example of why the town needs an enforceable policy.
At Wednesdayâs meeting, Yager told Town Council members that he felt the townâs ordinances were not being enforced.
âYou need to be doing a better job of enforcing ordinances pertaining to the appearance of the town,â Yager said.
According to Yager, a home on West Whitley Street held a garage sale which lasted for a lengthy period of time.
Columbia City High Schoolâs Marching Eagles stepped their way right into a Gold Rating and Distinction in Visual Effect Saturday at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) district competition at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne.
The Eagles will compete again this Saturday for the Lafayette regional, with hopes to advance to semi-state.
COLUMBIA CITY â A law passed in 2012 now requires all new school teachers and instructors renewing their licences to have CPR, AED and Heimlich certification.
