Library sets March events

COLUMBIA CITY — The Peabody Public Library, Columbia City, recently announced its events for March.


• Tatting has been cancelled until April.
•There is no Yoga on Thursday, March 20.
•Yoga will be cancelled on those days that Whitley County Consolidated Schools are closed.

Graphic students awarded for art work

FORT WAYNE — Graphic design students in the School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis dominated the student categories in the Advertising Federation of Fort Wayne Advertising Honors presentation in the Public Safety Academy on Fort Wayne’s south side Feb. 15.
School Of Creative Arts students’ won over half of a total 55 given in the student categories, taking home 31 awards: 17 gold, 13 silver and a Judge’s Choice for the new School Of Creative Arts viewbook.

The awards will be displayed in School Of Creative Art’s main case.

Members of New Era show choir, from Churubusco High School, celebrate after the group was declared Grand Champion of the Small Mixed Division at Homestead High School Saturday, while also winning caption awards for Best Band, Best Choreography and Best Vocals. New Era also won Overall Grand Champion while winning Best Vocals and Best Choreography.

Green sentenced to 8 years for burglary

COLUMBIA CITY — A man who admitted to breaking into his family’s home to steal property was given an eight-year sentence to the Whitley County Jail.
Tyler Green, 30, pleaded guilty to burglary in January.

His sentence of eight years will be fully served at the Whitley County Jail.

Green received the maximum sentence for the amended charge, which was burglary as a Class C felony.

A stipulation of the plea agreement was that the state agreed to not veto any sentence modification after Green served one-fourth of the time.

VOTING: Judy to seek election as State Representative

COLUMBIA CITY — Christopher Judy has officially announced his intent to seek election to the Indiana House of Representatives for the 83rd District.

A conservative Republican, Judy “stands with those who believe that the people of Indiana, not a solitary judge, should be allowed to define traditional marriage.”

Judy said he wants parents and local educators, not “DC bureaucrats,” to set education standards for Indiana.

As a lifetime member of the NRA, he strongly advocates protecting Hoosiers’ Second Amendment rights from unconstitutional executive orders.

LOCAL BAR: Manager calls harassment charges ‘false’

COLUMBIA CITY — After a sexual harassment complaint was filed with the state against him as the manager of a local tavern, Frank James calls the accusations “totally false.”

A former female bartender at Tri Lakes Tavern filed a sexual harassment complaint against the employer.

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission’s (ICRC) Deputy Director Akia Haynes announced Monday there is probable cause to believe the former bartender at Tri Lakes Tavern, Columbia City, was subjected to sexual harassment throughout the course of her employment.

Churubusco High School’s show choir, New Era, had a long but rewarding weekend. Friday night New Era was awarded First Runner Up at Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis. The group followed that up with “one of the greatest days in their history” Saturday at the Homestead Classic Showcase in Fort Wayne. During the day performance, New Era was named Grand Champion of the Small Mixed Division while also winning caption awards for Best Band, Best Choreography and Best Vocals.
