RECORD-SETTING AUCTION: Champion animals go for top dollar

COLUMBIA CITY — With the final bang of the gavel, Whitley County’s 4-H Fair auction closed with a record setting total of $405,844.98 July 17.

Several individual records were set at the 2014 auction.

AUDITOR UNDER INVESTIGATION: McGuire on voluntary leave

WHITLEY COUNTY (July 25, 2014) -- Whitley County Commissioners and Whitley County Prosecutor Matt Rentschler announced earlier today that Whitley County Auditor Jennifer McGuire is being investigated for alleged improprieties while acting in her county government position.

ONE BANKS LEADER TO ANOTHER: Wife of Sen. Banks to run for seat vacancy

COLUMBIA CITY — Hoping to step in to fill her husband’s Indiana Senate seat while he is deployed to Afghanistan is Amanda Banks, wife of State Sen. Jim Banks (R- Columbia City). Earlier in July, Banks announced he had elected to institute a leave of absence beginning in the fall when he is expected to serve with the U.S. Navy.

REQUESTED REZONING PERMIT: Factory property denied in unanimous vote

COLUMBIA CITY — A rezoning proposal has been twice denied by the City of Columbia City. Two weeks ago, the Columbia City Plan Commission was approached by Stephan Wells, the owner of Wells & Sons Metal Recycling, and current owner of the former Testworth Laboratories property.

US 30 PAVING UPDATE: INDOT to start tomorrow, not today

(COLUMBIA CITY) July 25, 2014 — Mayor Ryan Daniel received a message from INDOT stating that the U.S. 30 paving will now begin tomorrow rather than today.

Major delays are expected. The Columbia City Police Department advises drivers to avoid US 30 in Columbia City due to pavement resurfacing.
