VIDEO: Bears Say Clausen Will Miss Finale because of Concussion
Chicago Bears quarterback Jimmy Clausen will miss the final game of the season because of a concussion, and Jay Cutler will move back into the lineup. The Bears say Clausen was injured on a helmet-to-helmet hit by Detroit's Ezekiel Ansah while scrambling late in Sunday's loss to the Lions. Ansah received an unnecessary roughness penalty.

FREE CANDY: 125-year tradition carried on by CCFD

COLUMBIA CITY — A more than century-long tradition is continuing in Columbia City tonight.

Columbia City’s fire department is hosting its annual treat handout at the Whitley County Courthouse from 6 to 8 p.m.

For more than 125 years, the CCFD has been passing out candy and an orange to children on Christmas Eve.

“We don’t even know what year this was started,” said Columbia City Fire Chief Tom LaRue. “We know it has been around for at least 125 years.”

When the event began, sugary treats were hard to come by, so a one-pound bag of candy was a special treat, as were oranges.

SMILIN': Good old St. Nick

Old St. Nick sits with 4-year old Jace Mills in his cozy cottage Sunday. He has been meeting with throngs of children at his Courthouse Square Santa’s Cottage in downtown Columbia City. His final appearance at his Cottage will be Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Santa will re--appear from 6 to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve inside the Whitley County Courthouse, greeting tykes and handing out bags of candy and oranges. Sponsored by the Columbia City Fire Department, it’s a Christmas Eve tradition dating back more than 100 years.

COLUMBIA CITY — The 2nd annual “Patrolling for Presents” took place Monday evening at Wal-Mart in Columbia City.
Sponsored by the Columbia City Police Department, the event pairs children in need and local law enforcement officials together to give the opportunity for a unique Christmas shopping celebration.
