COLUMBIA CITY â The newest edition to the Whitley County Consolidated Schools family, Eagle Tech Academy, held a âparent-studentâ open house Tuesday.
While not scheduled to start until 6 p.m., parents and students began arriving around 5:10 p.m., per Principal Brady Mullettâs invitation, he said.

COLUMBIA CITY â Columbia City Police Departmentâs Doug Eber will finish his last day on duty today as he prepares to travel overseas for a year-long stint with the U.S. Navy.
Eber, 47, a petty officer first class with the Navy, spent much of 2011 in England and within the last several weeks, was told he would be deployed this month.

She is one of the oldest citizens in Columbia City and she still mows her own yard, cooks her own food, cleans her own house, plays euchre and weaves rugs out of plastic bags.
Norma Hawk, 90, didnât know about weaving when she first acquired her loom.

CHURUBUSCO â The Churubusco Town Council approved the first payment to Ironclad Excavating for the sewer line project. The amount of the payment is $94,622.61.
LeaAnn Herron, council member, asked Gerri Johnson, clerk/treasurer, what she found out from Keystone about setting up an account for ârounding upâ the utility bill and donating extra cash from that to the parks department, like REMC does. Johnson replied that Keystone does not have the capability to set up an account; Churubusco utilities [her office] would have to manually set up and enter the donations.

SOUTH WHITLEYâ Joe and Teresa Calhoun attended the South Whitley Town Council meeting on Tuesday evening regarding the building they own on Broad Street, which housed a pallet business until Feb. 14.
With approximately $12,000 delinquent on past utility bills, the Calhouns questioned why a prospective business (who wants to rent the facility) was denied electrical hook-up.

CHURUBUSCO â Smith-Green Community Schoolâs Board of Trustees applauded the efforts of Churubusco Elementary Schoolâs Karen Eckert at its regular meeting last week.
Eckert, a fifth-grade teacher at C.E.S. in her second year, was named Teacher of the Month for August.

LITTLE CEDAR LAKE â A pair of channels on Little Cedar Lake will be dredged thanks to a grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The Tri-Lakes Property Owners Association announced last week it had been awarded a $112,000 LARE (Lake and River Enhancement) grant from IDNR to remove sediment from the two channels on Little Cedar Lake.

The Columbia City High School Class of 1941 met for itâs 70th class reunion Saturday at a Big Gâs Restaurant.
