COLUMBIA CITY — The two governing bodies of Whitley County will meet together next week to discuss new developments in the issue of the county’s Emergency Medical Service.
After having crafted a plan to run the county’s EMS service for another five years and having it approved in May by the Whitley County Board of Commissioners, Parkview Whitley Hospital presented several new proposals earlier this month that will mean much more money out of the county’s coffers.

COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Street Department worked about seven hours beginning Tuesday night to repair a sinkhole after a sewer main break on Main Street near Jefferson Street.
According to Street Department Superintendent Kelly Cearbaugh, the sinkhole was brought to the city’s attention by an Indiana State Police officer.

COLUMBIA CITY — He and his family went through war at their homeland of Rode, Romania only to realize the American dream years later.
Bill Schwarz was just a young lad when he came to America with a brother, two sisters, his mom and dad and grandmother. But his family lost their family farm through it all.

July 8th
COLUMBIA CITY — The arts in Whitley County are alive — even more so now that there is a partnership involved.
It began as the brainchild of two women who felt Whitley County was solid as far as libraries and parks but came up short in other areas of the arts.

A local native just completed a 30-year quest to climb the highest peaks in Colorado.
Denny Teusch, a 1976 graduate of Columbia City Joint High School, and the son of Bob and Marilee Teusch of Columbia City, set out in 1982 to scale the state’s top 54 peaks, each over 14,000 feet in elevation.

SOUTH WHITLEY — A high-speed motorcycle pursuit by the county sheriff ended in a dramatic crash Thursday near South Whitley and put a North Manchester man in the hospital.
Isaiah Penrod, 24, of North Manchester, was driving his Honda “crotch-rocket” southbound on Ind. 205 from Columbia City.

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County 4-H Fair is approaching quickly (July 15-21) and there are some new events and features planned.
The bleachers in the grandstand are new and completely handicapped-accessible.

COLUMBIA CITY — The pieces fell into place quickly for Columbia City police last week when they were called about a burglary at Simonson Estates.
By the time all was said and done, suspects were identified, apprehended in a car chase, suspect deception was decoded, arrests were made and most of the victim’s stolen property was retrieved from a lake elsewhere in the county.

COLUMBIA CITY — In May, Whitley County’s government officials thought the issue of Emergency Medical Services was resolved.
The Board of Commissioners, with the blessing of the majority of county council members, voted 2-1 to enter into a five-year contract with Parkview Whitley Hospital to have the hospital continue to run the county’s ambulance service.
On Wednesday, they got a surprise.

July 6th
COLUMBIA CITY — After more than a century, the last remnants of the Whitley County courthouse’s original plumbing is being replaced.
According to Courthouse Maintenance Supervisor Dennis Fenker, antique cast iron plumbing pipe is being replaced throughout the 123-year-old structure.
