KOSCIUSKO COUNTY â€” Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate a shooting that occurred near Barbee Lake, in Kosciusko County at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene and another man was also shot, but suffered non-life threatening injuries after what police believe was a domestic dispute.
Barbee Lake is located less than 20 miles from Columbia City, south of North Webster.
The shooting occurred at EMS B-10 Lane north of Pierceton off Ind. 13.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Officials announced the winners of Columbia Cityâ€™s lighting contest this week.
While participation in the contest was down this year, City Councilman and contest judge Dan Weigold said the city still has many decorated homes.
â€śThere were a few less participants this year,â€ť Weigold said. â€śI think itâ€™s due to a combination of things â€” a late Thanksgiving and poor weather. At the same time, there are still some very beautiful homes.â€ť
This yearâ€™s top home has been a winner in the past. Taking overall honors was Mike Christie, whoâ€™s decorations stood out from the rest.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Most Whitley County residents are accustomed to hearing how government officials work on their behalf.
However, the holiday season found county officials working to give back to residents in tangible ways.
For the last 10 years, county employees have participated in a campaign to collect pocket change. The money raised goes to supply Christmas gifts and items needed for families struggling through the holiday season.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Smith-Green Community Schools Board of Trustees officially approved an agreement that will provide a School Resource Officer (SRO) for the district.
SGCS entered into an agreement with the town of Churubusco and the Churubusco Police Department at the recommendation of Superintendent Galen Mast.
Chad Fulkerson has updated his SRO training and met all of the requirements to be the SRO for the district.
Half of his salary will be provided by a Department of Homeland Security Grant the district received, which totals slightly more than $20,000.
