Hilger named top art educator

COLUMBIA CITY — An art teacher with Whitley County Consolidated School Corporation has been honored by the Art Education Association of Indiana.
Mary Hilger was selected to receive the Outstanding Art Educator of the Year award, by the association, which will hold its annual convention Nov. 4-6 in Indianapolis.

Debit cards for city payments in ’Busco

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco Town Council approved the Pay Gov Program last week.
After Geri Johnson, clerk/treasurer, takes training, credit and debit cards can be used to pay utility bills at her Town Hall office.

Former newspaper bldg. being turned into new law office

COLUMBIA CITY — The first thing Greg Hockemeyer, an associate at Myers Tison Hockemeyer & McNagny Law Firm, wanted to do was answer the question most asked of him when discussing his law firm’s work on its current project.
“The main thing everybody wants to know is ‘are we going to put the Post sign back up’. The answer is: ‘Yes.”’

’Busco town cop keeps eyes on school

CHURUBUSCO — When students at Churubusco Junior Senior High School see Chad Fulkerson at their school they see authority – and a long-time friend.
Fulkerson, Churubusco Pol-ice Town Marshal, is a School Resource Officer who spends four days on patrol in town and also at the school.

Vehicles converge on S. Whitley for Jeep Jam

SOUTH WHITLEY – The 6th Annual Jeep Jam was Saturday in South Whitley, hosted by Whitley Road residents Tom and Pam Kessie.
With all proceeds from the event going directly to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) of Allen County, the Kessies’ farm provided a challenging and unique up-and-down-hill, off-road course for the four-wheeler enthusiasts.

Thousands tour new hospital

COLUMBIA CITY — Throngs of visitors flocked to Parkview Whitley Hospital’s new facility at the corner of Ind. 205 and U.S. 30 for the hospital’s open house Sunday.
The event lasted four hours and required a colossal coordinated effort by hospital staff and Parkview employees from other hospitals, according to Senior Vice President Scott Gabriel.

Rock Hall’s induction process questioned

I know art is subjective.
But, come on.
Who is running the show at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I’ve been on the fence for a long time about the possible existence of life outside the Earth’s atmosphere. But now I’m not so sure. I have to wonder what planet these folks hail from.
My guess is whoever they are, they’ve never driven a fast car; sunk a bank shot using three rails to win $100 or strutted out to center stage with an electric guitar between their legs; or anything else remotely related to being cool.
They must be deathly allergic to swagger and panache
