EXPO AT ISMS: Whitley County Chamber EXPO is Saturday

COLUMBIA CITY — The 2015 Whitley County Chamber of Commerce EXPO is this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Indian Springs Middle School, highlighting great businesses and non-profits in Whitley County and the surrounding area.

Admission and parking are free for the annual event that draws upward of 1,500 people.

Under one roof, attendees will enjoy live entertainment, sample hors d’ oeuvres, shop local food booths and learn more about products and services offered in and around Whitley County. Activities will be changing and ongoing throughout the day.

FIRST-GRADE AG DAY: Col. City FFA hosts Ag Day for youngsters

COLUMBIA CITY — Approximately 350 Whitley County first-graders attended the annual Ag Day at the 4-H Center at the fairgrounds.

The event is hosted by the Whitley County Soil and Water Conservation District, Whitley County Farm Bureau, Inc. and the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service.

The event was presented by the Columbia City High School FFA Chapter. First graders had the opportunity to see a wide variety of farm animals.

TESTING: HSE test to be computer-only in 2016

COLUMBIA CITY — Those who wish to take the High School Equivalency (HSE) test on paper will have to do so before the year ends.

The HSE, formerly known as a GED, will switch to a computerized-only test in the year 2016.

While computerized tests save paper and allow for quicker results, it is imperative that test takers have basic computing skills such as being able to type at least 14 words per minute.

Fortunately, three Whitely County organizations are offering to help future test-takers prepare for the HSE test.

As we march to NCAA March Madness Selection Sunday, The Associated Press has started a new "Inside the Madness" blog on The Post & Mail's website.

The blog is now part of the "College Basketball" news, located near the middle of the home page.

Additionally, The Post & Mail's traditional brackets for The Big Dance will be published in Monday's print edition, which will be available on newsstands throughout Whitley County.

PURSUIT: Began with vehicle theft; Cory Aspy facing five charges

COLUMBIA CITY — A Columbia City man is facing five charges after stealing a vehicle, stealing gasoline and leading police on a pursuit from Columbia City to Fort Wayne last week.

Cory Aspy was arrested at the end of a pursuit that involved multiple law enforcement agencies last Tuesday.

More information has been released in the case, as police found that Aspy had stolen the vehicle two hours prior to the pursuit.

LOW TURN OUT: Kindergarten round-up essential for all

COLUMBIA CITY — With a low turn out so far for kindergarten round-up for Whitley County Consolidated
Schools, officials are reminding parents how important kindergarten round-up is for the parents, incoming students and teachers.

WCCS’ kindergarten round-up is next Thursday, March 19, for all four elementary schools.
Officials are concerned about the low number of sign-ups so far, as the event is important to all involved.
