Myrna Jane Brown-Yancey, 69, of Columbia City, died at 1:47 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Sept. 23, 1940, she was a daughter of Lee Arthur and Ethel (Weeks) Brown.

Survivors include six daughters, Nila Leckrone-Born, Lila Leckrone-Gagnon, Debra Brown, Mary Brown-Coe and twins, Amy and Angie; two brothers, Gale Brown and Cleo Brown; sisters, Bonnie Brown-Knetter and Sandra Brown-Watkins.

Dr. Richard Lewis Osberg, Sr., 83

Dr. Richard Lewis Osberg, Sr., 83 of Fort Myers, Fla. passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2010.

He was born on June 17, 1927 in Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill. to Emil Arthur and Ellen Marie Osberg. He attended grade school and high school on the North West side of Chicago. He received his B.A. at Huntington University in Huntington, his Master of Arts from Trinity University in Deerfield, Ill. and his Doctorate from Ball State in Muncie.

David E. “Popeye” Stier, 28

David E. “Popeye” Stier, 28, of Paulding, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at Henry County Hospital as the result of a traffic accident.

Born in Phoenix, Ariz., he was a member of White Tiger Martial Arts.

Surviving are his son, Sean A. Stier; father, Ronald R. Stier of Harlan; sisters, Rozlyne (Corey) Kling of Mishawaka, Amanda (Jose) Torrez and Stephanie (Trent) Bodie, both of Fort Wayne; grandmother, Donna L. Stier of New Haven; and grandfather, Larry Bradtmiller.

Robert A. Appleton, 79

Robert A. Appleton, 79, of Wolf Lake, died at 11:06 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at his residence. Born Sept. 24, 1930 in Lake County, he was a son of Clark and Luella (Bothwell) Appleton.

He graduated from Merrillville High School with the Class of 1948. From 1953-1955 he served in the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War.
On Nov. 9, 1957 he married Leila H. Wilson in Merrillville. In 1978 he moved with his family to Wolf Lake where he established the family farm, Appleton Farms, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Living Waters Lutheran Church in Wolf Lake.

Virginia M. Pepple, 93

Virginia M. Pepple, 93, a resident of Avilla and widow of Huber Pepple, passed away at 6:04 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.

Mrs. Pepple was born June 4, 1917 in Green Township in Noble County, a daughter of Martin and Anna (Bianski) Kostielney.

The surviving relatives include her daughter, Rosalie Curtland.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ege, with Father Danney Pinto, the celebrant.

Melvin G. Huber, 87

Melvin G. Huber, 87, died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Goshen General Hospital.

He was born March 9, 1923 to G. Fred and Sarah (Shidler) Huber in Goshen. On Nov. 21, 1942 he married Joann A. Detwiler at the First Brethren Church Parsonage, Goshen.

Thomas B. Parrish, 59

Thomas B. Parrish, 59, a resident of rural Fort Wayne in Eel River Township, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Parrish was born in Fort Wayne Aug. 2, 1951, a son of Robert E. , Sr. and Sylvia M. (Shoopman) Parrish. He spent his formative years in Eel River Township and graduated from Carroll High School in 1970.

John M. “Big John” Clawson, 76

September 7, 2010

John M. “Big John” Clawson, 76, of Columbia City, died at 2:38 a.m. Sunday, September 5, 2010 at his home.

He was born Oct. 30, 1933 in Marion, a son of John R. and Edith M. (Chappell) Clawson. He enlisted in the United States Navy, receiving a Purple Heart during the Korean War.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Lynn.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date at Grace Lutheran Church. There will be no visitation.

Preferred memorials may be directed the final expense account at Smith & Sons Funeral Home.

Willard S. “Bill” Hankins, 89

Willard S. “Bill” Hankins, 89, a resident of Huntertown, passed away at 9:15 a. m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at the Kingston care Center in Fort Wayne following an extended illness.

Mr. Hankins was born March 22, 1921, a son of Marvin C. and Marie (Webber) Hankins, and served with the U. S. Army during World War II.
Among the surviving relatives is his wife Isabel; a son William E. Hankins; a brother, Norman Eugene Hankins; and a sister, Edna Marie Snyder.

Michael Edwin Murphy, 56

Michael Edwin Murphy, 56, of Churubusco (Blue Lake) passed away at 6:25 pm, Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at his residence. Born Aug. 31, 1954 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of Charles and Jean (Bussard) Murphy.

Raised in New Haven, he graduated from New Haven High School with the Class of 1972, then went on to earn his HVAC Certificate from Ivy Tech Community College. For the past 31 years he has been a resident of Blue Lake. He was employed by Sears as an HVAC Technician for over 21 years. On July 28, 2007 he married Rowena E. Walker in Columbia City.
