September 29th
Rondo Monerville “Monty” Miller, 84, of Huntington, died at 7:39 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 28, 2010 at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
He was born April 27, 1926 in Peru, a son of Robert V., Sr. and Nellie C. (Hartleroad) Miller. He married Norma Jane Nichols.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Gard.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary. Funeral services will then be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the mortuary with Rev. Elzie Spencer officiating. There will be no burial.
Nelson R. Arnold, 76, of rural Churubusco, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010.
He was born May 12, 1934 in Allen County, a son of Nelson H. and Sarah Pauline (Bowlby) Arnold. His formative years were spent in the Churubusco area. He graduated from Huntertown High School.
He engaged in general farming and was employed at Viking in Columbia City for many years and H & H Equipment in Huntertown for 22 years, retiring in 1999.
Surviving relatives include his companion, Nellene K. Miller and a sister, Marilyn (Brian) Parish, both of Churubusco.
September 28th
Sherman W. Kneller, 91, of Columbia City, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 at the Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.
He was born Oct. 6, 1918 in Washington Township, a son of Sherman L. and Bertha H. (Luecke) Kneller. After graduating from Washington Center High School in 1936, he farmed, worked at the Myers Creamery and also drove a taxi cab in Fort Wayne.
In 1940, he founded the Kneller State Farm Insurance Agency which he continued to operate until his retirement in 2000.
From 1942 until 1945, he served in the U.S. Army.
Margaret Mae Mosher, 86, of Columbia City, died at 5:50 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City where she had been a resident since Tuesday.
She was born June 15, 1924 in South Whitley, a daughter of Charles and Pearl (Fiegley) Bates. Her formative years were spent in South Whitley. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1942 and continued her education at Warner Beauty College in Fort Wayne.
In July 1944 she married Ralph Webber. They made their home in Kosciusko and Whitley counties, moving to Barbee Lake in 1978. Mr. Webber died in May 1980.
Richard C. Burman, 66, of rural Columbia City, died at 7:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at his home. He had been in failing health since June.
He was born Nov. 22, 1943 in Huntington, a son of William and Mary (Harper) Burman. His formative years were spent in Huntington and he was a graduate of Huntington High School.
He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard.
William “Jake” Frances Jakubowski, 61, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:56 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 2, 1948 in Berlin, Wis., he was a son of Frances and Delores “Dodie” (Schliepp) Jakubowski.
Survivors include his sons, Thomas W. Jakubowski and Charles C. Jakubowski; mother, Delores “Dodie” Jakubowski; sister, Connie Pribnow; and father, Frances Jakubowski.
September 24th
Duane A. Coe, 73, of Albion and formerly of Columbia City, died at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 at Northridge Village Nursing and Rehab. He had been in failing health since January.
He was born Nov. 5, 1936 in Albion, a son of Orval and Mabel (Heltzel) Coe. He graduated from Albion Jefferson High School.
On May 23, 1955 he married Shirley A. Iden in Blue Ridge, Ga. They made their home in Kendallville, Columbia City and later Albion.
He was employed at Weatherhead for 18 years and retired in 1997 from Sea Nymph Boat Company in Syracuse with 15 years of service.
Rosealene Whaley, 74, of South Whitley, died at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. She was born Nov. 18, 1935 in Sidney, a daughter of Russell J. and Veva M. (Rickert) Farley.
She was a lifetime South Whitley resident except for three years in Wyoming (Big Piney). She graduated from Chester High School, North Manchester, with the Class of 1953 and completed one year at Fort Wayne Warner Beauty College. She married Lee H. Whaley on June 6, 1954 in
North Manchester, at the United Brethren Church.
September 23rd
Harriet E. Wiard, 98, a resident of Fort Wayne and widow of Donald D. Wiard, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at Hamilton House in Fort Wayne.
She was born in Charlevoix, Mich. Aug. 31, 1912, a daughter of Charles J. and Amelia (Schaffer) Cork.
The surviving relatives include a daughter, Phyllis Arvola and two sons, Robert C. Wiard and Richard Wiard.
Richard “Rich” Lee Clouse, 65, of Columbia City, passed away at 3:33 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born July 6, 1945 in Kendallville, Noble County, he was the son of Wilber “Pete” Raymond and Bernice Eloise (Kitson) Clouse.
