COLUMBIA CITY â€” Richard Ira Ramp, 89, a resident of Columbia City, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in the Millerâ€™s Merry Manor.
He was born March 12, 1922 in Columbia City, a son of Ira and Eva Johnson Ramp.
He attended the Coesse and McClellan grade schools and graduated from Columbia City High School in 1940.
He was first employed at the Columbia Woolen Mill until February, 1942 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as a top turret gunner on a B-29 bomber stationed in England.
HUNTERTOWN â€” Herbert K. Sutton, 86, of rural Huntertown died at 3:45 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, at the family residence in Butler Township. He had been in failing health for the past month.
Mr. Sutton was born in Fort Wayne Nov. 7, 1924, to Charles and Mary (Rupley) Sutton.
On March 20, 1948 he was married in Churubusco to Mary E. Geiger.
Surviving relatives include his wife Mary; a son Dennis Sutton of LaOtto; three daughters, Vickie Nodine, Nancy Chittenden, and Peggy Tarlton, Jr., all of Garrett; a brother Dale Freeman of Huntertown; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Harvey L. Breaux, 70, of Columbia City, died from a Glioblastoma brain tumor Sunday, June 26, 2011 at his home.
He was born Aug. 25, 1940 in Pierre Part, La., a son of Felix and Florence (LeBlanc) Breaux.
He graduated from Assumption High School in Napoleonville in 1958.
On Feb. 4, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Korea one year and 18 days. He was honorably discharged Aug. 24, 1964.
On Sept. 8, 1961, he married Marie C. Roberts in San Antonio, Texas. For 41 years they lived in Houston where he worked.
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. â€” Bernard Howard Trombley II, 52, of Lansing, Kan., died Thursday, June 23, 2011, at St. Johnâ€™s Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan.
He was born Aug. 5, 1958, in Columbia City, the son of Bernard Howard and Augustina J. (Vigneaux) Trombley of Columbia City.
HUNTINGTON â€” Viola V. Moore, 53, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011. She was born in Huntington June 11, 1958.
Viola is survived by her husband of 22 years, Michael R. Moore; daughters, Samantha Ann Drudge and husband, Christopher, Sarah Lynn Moore, and Yvonne Nigles; grandsons, Ethan Michael Drudge, Spencer Nolan Drudge, and Mason Christopher Drudge; father, William Charles Kelsey; and mother, Vivian Charlotte Stotts.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 Forest Parkway.
FORT WAYNE â€” Jo Ann Blake, 76, a resident of Fort Wayne past away at 2:35 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 21, 1935 in Columbia City, a daughter of the late John and Jesse (Laukhart) DeBolt.
Surviving relatives include four daughters, Lisa, Cheryl and Jonni Blake, Fort Wayne and Lynne Blake of Clearwater, FL; three granddaughters and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Blake, Jr.; six brothers, five sisters and John H. Blake.
Joseph A. â€śJoeâ€ť Harris, 64, of Pierceton, passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his home. He was born on June 19, 1947 in Fort Wayne to William J. & Elsie (Wagoner) Harris.
He was a United States Army veteran, served during the Vietnam War and was married Oct. 3, 1970 in Fort Wayne to Phyllis D. Knox who survives.
He is also survived by daughter, Tanya (Martin) Johnson of Delaware, Ohio; a son Kevin Harris of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; and brother James (Sandy) Harris of North Webster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Billie Sue Baker
Frederick L. Collar, 85, of Columbia City, passed away at 8:48 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011 from injuries sustained in a vehicular accident in White County.
Born Nov. 12, 1925 in Defiance, Ohio, he was the son of John and Ruth (Heil) Collar.
A lifetime Whitley County resident, he attended Churubusco High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On Sept. 5, 1948 he married Carolynn L. Bechtold at First Baptist Church in Columbia City.
A general farmer in Thorncreek Township, he also worked for Dana Corporation, Fort Wayne, where he retired with 30 years of service.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Janelle D. Hess, 46, of South Whitley, died Monday, June 20, 2011.
She was born July 31, 1964 in Columbia City, a daughter of Harold M. and Yvonne D. (Overmeyer) King. Her formative years were spent in South Whitley. She graduated from Whitko High School.
Her memberships included St. Johnâ€™s Lutheran Church in Kendallville.
RICHMOND â€” Orval D. Johnston, 98, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 9:30 p.m. in Golden Living Center, Richmond.
Johnston was born Feb. 5, 1913 in Warsaw to Charley W. and Leota (Rhodes) Johnston.
On June 6, 1939, he married Aletha B. Beiswanger in Warsaw.
Survivors include three sons, Gaylord Johnston, Warsaw, David Johnston of Columbia City and Dallas Johnston of Elkhart; two daughters, Rosalind Morey, Richmond and Virginia â€śGinnyâ€ť Hermansen of Salem, Ore.; 17 grandchildren 30 great grandchildren, and numerous foster grandchildren and step grandchildren.
