Patricia Reed, 82

AVILLA — Patricia Opal Reed, 82, of Avilla, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Provena Sacred Heart Home.
Mrs. Reed was born in Kendallville April 14, 1929, to the late Clifford John Barker and Opal Daisey (Helmer) Becker.
She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1946 and married Jack Phillip Reed Aug. 24, 1947, at the Wayne Center United Methodist Church near Kendallville.
Pat was a bookkeeper and was employed with Parker Nivens Chevrolet in Kendallville for 18 years.
She also assisted Ron Everage when he began Everage Motor Sales in Stroh.

Elnora Norris, 71

Elnora L. Norris, 71, of Columbia City, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at Canterbury Rehab, Fort Wayne.
Born March 21, 1940, in Huntington County, she was the daughter of Edward P. and Bessie H. (Rupley) Schenkel.
She grew up in Andrews and moved to Whitley County in 1975.
She graduated from Andrews High School with the Class of 1958.
On June 10, 1961 she married Brent L. Norris in Andrews. She retired from Precision Plastics, Columbia City in 2001.

Junelle Luther, 86

COLUMBIA CITY — Junelle A. Luther, 86, of Columbia City, died at 4:09 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at Miller’s Merry Manor where she was admitted Thursday, Oct. 13.
She was born May 5, 1925, in Union Township, Whitley County, a daughter of William Thomas and Ione J. (Tucker) Perry.
Her formative years were spent in Union Township, with the exception of a short time in Auburn. She graduated from Coesse High School.
On June 29, 1946, she was united in marriage to Leonard E. Luther. They made their home in Washington Township, Whitley County.

Lyle Bailey, 64

Lyle R. Bailey, 64, of Columbia City, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
Born on Feb. 16, 1947 in Huntington, he was the son of Walter R. and Mary Jane (Bailey) Bailey.
Lyle spent his childhood in Huntington, graduating from Huntington High School with the Class 1965 and then entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1966-1968.
He spent most of his adult lifetime in Huntington, moving to Big Lake in 1987 then moved to Columbia City and to his present home in 2010.

Ralph Zeigler, 85

Ralph P. Zeigler, 85, of Churubusco, passed away peacefully in his barn on the Zeigler family farm at 12:48 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011.
Born April 25, 1926, in Smith Township, Whitley County, he was the son of Jessie and Lillie F. (Prough) Zeigler.
A lifetime resident of Whitley County, he graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1945.
On Oct. 5, 1946, he married V. Dolores Nicodemus at First Church of God, Columbia City.
A general farmer, he worked at Newhouser Hatchery, Fort Wayne and Farm Bureau Co-Op, delivering fuel oil for 17 years.

Vivian Mohler, 89

FORT WAYNE — Vivian G. Mohler, 89, of Fort Wayne, died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne where she had been a resident since Oct. 3.
She was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Harrington, Kan., a daughter of Homer B. and Hilda Mae (Magley) Reider.
As an infant, her family moved to Columbia City. She graduated from Columbia City High School.
On March 2, 1941 she was united in marriage to Elmer E. Mohler.
They made their home in Columbia City until December, 2001 when they moved to Fort Wayne.
Mr. Mohler preceded her in death March 31, 2002.

Evelyn Fritz, 96

LIGONIER — Evelyn I. Fritz, 96, of Ligonier, died at 3:50 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Avalon Village, Ligonier where she had been a resident since 2009.
She was born Oct. 13, 1915, in Whitley County, a daughter of Joseph and Grace (Bennett) Cunningham.
Her formative years were spent in the Larwill area.
She completed her education at Larwill High School.
In 1947, she married A.A. “Aquilla” Marker.
They made their home south of Etna. Mr. Marker died July 1, 1968.
She later married Ralph Fritz. They made their home in South Whitley.
Mr. Fritz died in 1983.

David Heritier, 66

COLUMBIA CITY — David A. Heritier, 66, a Columbia City attorney, died at 6:22 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne where he was admitted Sept. 23 following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 24, 1945, in Indianapolis, a son of Claude Jules and Laura Ann (Bridges) Heritier M.D.
He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1963, received his B.A. in Sociology and a master’s degree in American Studies from Purdue University, completing his education at the School of Law at Valparaiso University.

Barbara Shumm, 90

Barbara J. Shumm, 90, of Fort Wayne, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011.
Born July 23, 1921, in Decatur, Barb was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. She also was a member of the Rosary Society and Beta Sigma Phi who enjoyed volunteering with different groups and organizations.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Steven) Smethers of Columbia City; sister, Mary Catherine Hain of Decatur; grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Gareiss, David (Jennifer) Gareiss and Kendra (Ehren) Siebert; and five great-grandchildren.

Gordon Anspach, 75

Gordon H. Anspach, 75, retired Columbia City police officer and former chief of police, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Millers Merry Manor, Columbia City where he was admitted Oct. 3, 2011.
He was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Fort Wayne, a son of the late Harold and Marie (Weitfeldt) Anspach.
As a young boy, the family moved to Thorncreek Township in Whitley County where he attended Thorncreek Elementary School.
He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1955.
On Sept. 13, 1958 he was united in marriage to Martha L. Hinen. They made their home in Columbia City.
