Melba Kussmaul, 76, of Warsaw, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at 7:30 a.m. in Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake.
She was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Whitley County to Andrew and Mary (Bryant) Brookover.
She has lived in Kosciusko County since 1971. Melba married John Kussmaul on July 3, 1954 in Huntington.
Melba and John were the past owners of Jot-Em-Down Store (Barbee Lake) from 1971 to 2003. She was a member of the Salem Community Missionary Church. She was the president of the Womenâs Circle at the church.
Jerry Lee Young, 64, died on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at his residence in Churubusco.
Mr. Young was born in Kendallville June 23, 1947, to the late Preston E. and Eva (Snyder) Young.
He graduated from Albion Jefferson High School in 1965 and Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago.
The Vietnam War was being fought and Jerry entered the U.S. Army, taking his basic training at Fort Leonardwood in Missouri.
After basic training, he came home to get married and took Barbara Ann Deck to be his bride on Dec. 31, 1966, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ege.
Howard A. Ernst, 95, of Columbia City, passed away peacefully at his residence at 7:05 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011.
Born Nov. 4, 1916 in Sorento, Ill., he was the son of Donald and Grace (West) Ernst.
He grew up in Columbia City and on Nov. 24, 1967, he married Mantie Louise Collier in Columbia City.
For 20 years he worked at Weatherhead Company and owned and operated Ernst Restaurant and Ernst Painting, all of Columbia City. He attended Cornerstone Fellowship Church.
SOUTH WHITLEY â R. Duane Loe, 44, of South Whitley, passed away quietly at his home surrounded by his family at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011. He had been fighting cancer.
He was born June 12, 1967, in Columbia City, a son of Raymond Duane Loe, Sr. and Linda (Snyder) Loe.
His formative years were spent in South Whitley. He graduated from Whitko High School.
Following his graduation, he went to work for the South Whitley Electric Department for seven years. He also became a member of the Cleveland Twp. Volunteer Fire Department.
COLUMBIA CITY â Dixie Clingerman âSisâ Nei, 71, passed away at 8:12 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis surrounded in love with her daughters and grandchildren.
She had become suddenly ill at her home on Wednesday.
She was born July 27, 1940, in Columbia City, the daughter of William F. and Irene (Heintzelman) Clingerman.
She spent her childhood in the Ormas area and graduated from North Webster High School with the class of 1958.
However, most of her adult life was spent at TriLakes, except from 1980 to 1990 when she resided in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
Kim David Jenkins, 57, of Columbia City, passed away at 8:13 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Born Oct. 29, 1954, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Cyrus Jack and Wanda Marie (Foulk) Jenkins.
He spent his childhood in Fort Wayne where he graduated from Heritage High School with the Class of 1972 and furthered his education by receiving an Associate Degree at Ivy Tech College.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1975 and attained the rank of specialist.
In 1978, he moved to Coesse and completed his military service as a reservist in 1981.
Paul C. Radke, 70 of Somerset Township in Jerome, Mich., passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at his home.
He was born Oct. 3, 1941, in Detroit to Peter P. and Eloise C. (DeWitt) Radke.
Paul lived his early life in Indiana and then in southern Michigan.
He moved to the Jerome area 14 years ago. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1960.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.
COLUMBIA CITY â Karen Lee Haskin, 57, a resident of Columbia City, died at 11:16 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 in the Parkview Whitley Hospital.
She was born Feb. 28, 1954, in Columbia City, a daughter of Derald and Janyce DeWitt Coomer.
On May 12, 1976, she was united in marriage to Harry H. Haskin.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Harry; two sons, David Haskin and Jason Haskin both of Columbia City; and a grandson, Devin Haskin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Kristi and Sherre.
Virginia E. âJenâ Tippy, 83, of Columbia City, died at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Parkview Oaks where she had been a resident since Feb. 26, 2009.
She was born March 12, 1928, in Rochester, Indiana, a daughter of Herman and Readah (Baldwin) Cleland.
She graduated from Rochester High School.
On Oct. 8, 1949 she married Jack L. Tippy.
They made their home in Angola and North Manchester before moving to Columbia City in 1970. Mr. Tippy died July 5, 1977.
Martha L. Osbun, 83, a resident of rural Churubusco in Noble County and wife of Everett W. Osbun, passed away at 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011 at her home in Green Township.
She had been in declining health for some time, and had been seriously ill for the past week.
Mrs. Osbun was born in Green Township on April 2, 1928, a daughter of Earlin R. and Mary N. (McClain) Budd. She spent her formative years north of Churubusco in Noble County, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1946.
