Carla Cooper, 57

Carla Anne Cooper, 57, of Columbia City, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.
On March 20, 1954, in Fort Knox, Ky., she was the oldest of three daughters born to Maynard E. and Beverly J. (Pence) Harrold.
As a child, she resided in Columbia City where she graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1972.
She graduated in 1976 from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and French with distinction.
Carla earned a master’s degree in Education in 1994 from Valparaiso University.

Maxine Hursey, 89

ELKHART — Maxine (Palmer) Hursey, 89, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Hursey was born April 10, 1922, in Whitley County to Jesse and Ethel (Garrison) DePoy.
She was married to J. Marion Palmer on Aug. 14, 1940. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1985.
On Feb. 24, 1990, she married Edgar A. Hursey. He also preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1999.

Nathan Castor, 27

Nathan Ronald Castor, 27, formerly of Kendallville, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012.
He was born March 9, 1984, in Bristol, Penn., a son of Ronald C. and Connie (Fulk) Castor.
Surviving relatives include his parents, Ronald and Connie Castor of Kendallville; a sister, Miranda Heitz of Clearwater, Fla; a nephew, Ezra Heitz; aunts and uncles Joanne Etersque, Vincent Castor, Maria Faight, Kathleen Thompson, Annette Castor, Christopher Makai, Joan Rose, and Steve Fulk; and numerous cousins.

Grace Akers, 89

Grace Akers, 89, a former resident of rural Churubusco in Noble County and widow of Donald G. Akers, died at 2:55 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Renaissance Village Nursing Home.
She was born in Van Wert, Ohio Sept. 4, 1922, a daughter of Homer and Lucy D. (Ingmire) Murphy.
She was married in Fort Wayne on Aug. 30, 1942, to Donald G. Akers.
Mr. Akers preceded her in death on April 26, 1994.
