Virginia A. Browning, 84, of Fort Wayne, died at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Smith Township, a daughter of Adam and Ollie (Truelove) Ragan.
On Jan. 24, 1946, she married Leo E. Browning, who preceded her in death on June 6, 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Browning of Churubusco and Dean Browning of Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Pamela Murphy of Dewy Rose, Ga. and Renee Lemish of Avilla; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Peggy Jean Heindselman, 86, of South Whitley died at 8:48 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Parkview Oaks where she had been a resident for the last four weeks.
She was born July 6, 1925, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Clifford and Bessie (Shorb) Sickafoose.
Her formative years were spent in the Fort Wayne area.
She started high school at Northside, Fort Wayne and finished her senior year at South Whitley, graduating with the Class of 1943.
Following her graduation, she worked for Lincoln Life, Fort Wayne. On Feb. 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to John K. Heindselman.
Marilyn Anne Enz McVay, 79, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, in West Lafayette.
She was born March 28, 1932, to Carl and LeNore (Hoard) Enz in Springfield, Ill.
In the 1930s, her family moved to Washington Township where she grew up on the family farm and attended Washington Center School.
She was very proud that her family came to Whitley County in the 1830s and settled in Washington Township. She transferred to Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne where she graduated in 1950.
She graduated from Indiana University with a major in elementary education with a reading concentration.
Ardith Fay Baker, 81, of Columbia City, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor Inc., Columbia City.
Born March 29, 1930, in Thorncreek Township, she was the daughter of Arthur Henry and Marie Helen (Fullmer) Baron.
Her formative years were spent in Columbia City and Whitley County where she attended Thorncreek Elementary School and Columbia City High School.
On Nov. 9, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harold Oran Baker. In 1969, she and her family moved to Meridian, Miss. where her husband took a position as a tool and die supervisor.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Martha I. Long, 83, of Columbia City, died Thursday morning, Feb. 16, 2012, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor where she had been a resident since Oct. 14, 2011.
She was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Warren, a daughter of George E. and Mable (Moyer) Long.
In 1930, her family moved to Mooresville and in 1943 to Columbia City.
She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1946 and attended Manchester College for two years.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Pauline McBride, 89, of Churubusco, died at 7:10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at her residence in Churubusco.
She was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Churubusco, a daughter of Bert J. and Edith (Bice) Grim.
On June 7, 1941, she was married in Angola to Ralph R. McBride, who preceded her in death Nov. 13, 1992.
Dale E. Geiger, 78, of rural Columbia City, passed away at 4:34 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla., where he spent his winters.
Mr. Geiger was born Dec. 11, 1933, in Columbia City, a son of Clifton J. â€śJakeâ€ť and Irene (Krider) Geiger.
He spent his formative years in rural Columbia City all within a mile of his current residence.
He lived at his current residence since 1965 and was a dairy farmer for 17 years. He was also a grain farmer until he retired at the age of 70.
On Jan. 18, 1958 he was married in Decatur to Janice Irene Owen.
