HUNTINGTON â€” Jack P. Barlow, Sr., 70 of Huntington, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at The Heritage of Huntington.
He was born Nov. 23, 1941, in Detroit, a son of William Henry and Lena Mae (Harlow) Barlow.
He was united in marriage to Rebecca J. Bedwell on Jan 19, 1962, in Livonia, Mich. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Jack P. Barlow, Jr. of Huntington; a daughter, Kimberly J. Wood of Huntington; a sister, Virginia L. Tappan of Mio, Michigan; two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William C. Barlow.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Argyle E. Beard, 88, of rural Columbia City, went to be with our Lord at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor.
He was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Richland Township, a son of Dalton and Ruth (Coyle) Beard.
He completed his education at Larwill High School with the class of 1942.
He was a farmer, truck driver, custodian at Thorncreek Township School from 1952 until 1965 and a delivery and service man for Skelgas from 1965 until 1982 when he retired.
He then delivered flowers for Carriage House Flowers for many years.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Joseph D. Shaffer, 80, of rural Columbia City, passed away peacefully at 11:23 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at his home with his family at his side.Â
Joe was a veteran from the German occupation to the Korean War.Â
He retired as a tool and die maker from Tokhiem Corporation after 44 years and continued farming.Â Â
Joe is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 61 years, Stella; four daughters, Penny Shaffer, Pam (Carl) Emley, Paula (Ellis) Sturgill and Polly (David) Cox; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.Â
Pearlie Garrison, 90, of rural Churubusco and widow of Marion A. â€śGaryâ€ť Garrison, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Feb. 8, 2012, at North Ridge Village Nursing Home in Albion following an extended illness.
She had been a patient there for the past year.
Mrs. Garrison was born Oct. 10, 1921, to Ben and Nancy (Rowe) Clemons in Guage, Ky. She moved to this area in her teens, married Marion A. â€śGaryâ€ť Garrison, and had lived in this area all of her adult life.
She was a homemaker, was a member of Churubusco Church of the Nazarene, and was a member of a pinochle card club.
Nadean May Zorger, 84, of Huntington and formerly of South Whitley, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born Aug. 24, 1927, in Jefferson Township, the daughter of Russell F. and Beulah A. (Shroyer) Taylor.
She spent her childhood in Jefferson Township, graduating from Jefferson Center High School with the class of 1945.
She married Marvin Leo â€śTimâ€ť Zorger on Oct. 5, 1947, at Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church.
She lived at her South Whitley home from 1966 until 2009 when she moved into Huntington.
Helen L. Clark, 85, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 10:44 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
Born July 13, 1926, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Paul Hiler and Erma Irene (Ferrell) Shroyer.
In 1937, she and her family moved from Fort Wayne to Jefferson Township.
She graduated from Jefferson Township School, and while a senior, completed her training at Betty Jean Lefeverâ€™s Beauty School to become a professional beautician.
On March 15, 1947 she married Julian W. Clark in Columbia City.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” John L. Fries, 83, of Columbia City, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was admitted Saturday evening.
He was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Fort Wayne, a son of Leo J. and Ella Marie (Perry) Fries.
His formative years were spent in Columbia City and Thorncreek Township. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1947, from Indiana University with a bachelorâ€™s degree in education in 1953 and from Indiana University with a masterâ€™s degree in education in 1962.
Phyllis Peabody Bates Richardson, 93, passed away on Jan. 20, 2012.
Phyllis was born in 1918 to Jack and Carrie Peabody.
Following college, She married Robert C. Bates and resided in Columbia City until his death. She then moved to Arizona and married Harry E. Richardson in 1978.
Phyllis is survived by three children, Robert C. Bates of Arizona, Susan Bates Kyler of North Carolina, Joanne Bates Flynn of California, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her late husband, Harry E. Richardson. Private services were held in Arizona.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Clela Kneller Richard, 94, of Tulsa, Okla. died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, in the Southcrest Hospital.
She was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Washington Township, a daughter of Sherman L. and Bertha H. (Luecke) Kneller.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Brenda Mauzy and Marsha Cochran, both of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and Paul Kneller of Columbia City.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, George Kneller, Ray Kneller and Sherman W. Kneller.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Luise Barbara Germann Pook, 95, passed away peacefully Friday night, Jan. 27, 2012, at home. She was born Feb. 11, 1916, in Cleveland, a daughter of the late Dr. Albert F. O. Germann, Sr. and Ida Helene (Meinke) Germann.
A graduate of Cleveland East High School in 1933, she attended Flora Stone Mather College of Western Reserve University from 1933-36.
After moving to South Whitley and helping start her fatherâ€™s business, she completed her bachelorâ€™s degree at Manchester College in 1940.
