Madelyn France, 92

Madelyn J. France, 92, formerly of Columbia City, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Friday May 11, 2012, at Western Reserve Masonic Community, Medina, Ohio.
Born Nov. 26, 1919, she was the daughter of William and Isabelle (Lovely) Stidham.
On Feb. 8, 1941, she married Robert D. France in Columbia City. A wife and mother, she was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church.

Cheryleen Ressler, 65

Cheryleen Sue Ressler of Columbia City passed away at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Parkview Oaks, Columbia City.
Born on Sept. 18, 1946, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Herbert I. and Cathaline “Katie” C. (Adkins) Ressler.
She was a lifetime resident of Whitley County and attended Etna Troy Grade School and Indiana School for the Blind. She worked at Passages, Inc. for 30 years.

Ruth Cox, 99

Ruth N. Cox, 99, a resident of Lake Township in Allen County and widow of Lawrence V. Cox, passed away at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Hamilton House in Fort Wayne where she had resided for the past two years.
Mrs. Cox was born on Nov. 5, 1912, in Kosciusko County, a daughter of Amiel N. and Lula Mae (Nichols) Green. She spent her formative years in Eel River Township, and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1931.
On Sept. 1, 1931, she was married to Lawrence V. Cox, and had moved to her home in Lake Township in 1943 from Cromwell.

Larry Crawford, 62

SOUTH WHITLEY — Larry L. Crawford, 62, of South Whitley, died at 2:08 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne where he was admitted Wednesday.
He was born Oct. 12, 1949, in Fort Wayne, a son of Phil M. and Genevieve L. (Hertsel) Crawford.
He was a lifelong resident of South Whitley with the exception of a year near Larwill. He graduated from South Whitley High School.
On Oct. 17, 1970, he was united in marriage to Alice F. May. Mrs. Crawford died Aug. 25, 2011.
He was a bassoon and oboe maker for Fox Products for 34 years.

Gertrude Brock, 100

COLUMBIA CITY — Gertrude A. Brock, 100, of Columbia City and formerly of South Whitley, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Parkview Oaks.
She was born Jan. 18, 1912, in South Bend, a daughter of Lee O. and Florence (Carbiener) Walters. She graduated from Central High School in South Bend.
On March 4, 1933, she married Loyal B. Riley.
In 1936 they moved to South Whitley from Nappanee. Mr. Riley died in 1951.
On Jan. 27, 1957, she married Orda Hare. They always made their home in South Whitley. Mr. Hare died in 1974.

Dale Parsley, 85

Dale Parsley, 85, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2012, in Lewisville, Texas.
Born in South Whitley, Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis, and is survived by daughters, Linda Marshall and Karen Howe, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Retired from International Harvester after 30 years, Dale was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korea and a life member of the VFW 10006 and American Legion 296.
A private grave-side service will be held in Fort Wayne at a later time.

Karl Pesick, 80

Karl Richard Pesick, 80, of South Whitley, died at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Peabody Retirement Center, North Manchester.
Born on March 27, 1932, in Chicago, he was the son of John and Blanche (Petrovic) Pesick.
On Oct. 21, 1974, he married Linda D. Hon in Chicago. He served in U.S. Navy from 1952-1956.

Joan Mitchell, 84

COLUMBIA CITY — Joan Marie Mitchell, 84, of Columbia City, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
She was born February 27, 1928, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Roy Cuppy and Ruth (Besson) Stanley.
She graduated from Washington Center High School and Warner Beauty College.
On Nov. 1, 1952, she married Rolland W. Mitchell. They made their home in Indiana and California, returning to Whitley County in 1972. Mr. Mitchell died Oct. 2, 1989.

Helen Fink, 85

Helen I. Fink, 85, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Canterbury Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne.
Born in Defiance, Ohio, Helen retired from L.S. Ayres and International Harvester where she had been a radio dispatcher. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Helen had a nurturing heart for raising Yorkshire terriers and enjoyed working in her yard.
Surviving are sister, Laura Craig of Auburn, goddaughters, June Keiser, Deanna Kissinger, and Tara Van Houten all of Columbia City, and several nieces and nephews.

Maryrose Bunger, 68

Maryrose Bunger, 68, of Bradenton, Fla. and formerly of Columbia City, died Monday, April 30, 2012. Her family was present at time of death.
She was voted Woman of the Year in “Who’s Who” magazine, was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Oneco Post, Eagles, Vice President of H.O.A. at Winds of St. Armands, and she attended Oneco United Methodist Church.

WHITLEY COUNTY — Area football teams are taking a final day of preparation before the season opens...
The Columbia City Church of the Nazarene Alpha team won the Church League Softball championship...
