Patricia Ann Dean, 65, of Columbia City, died at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne,.
Born on July 16, 1947, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Jefferson Davis and Mary Jane (Kneller) Caudill.
Raised in Columbia City, she spent her lifetime in the Whitley County and Fort Wayne areas, living in Columbia City for the past 17 years. She graduated from Columbia City School with the class of 1965.
Clint Robert Collier, 31, of Larwill, died at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
A lifetime Whitley County resident, he was born Aug. 19, 1980, in Columbia City, the son of Robert Lee Collier and Tonya (Smith) McKay.
Kelly â€śPopcornâ€ť Caskey, 68, of Columbia City, died suddenly at 7:16 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2012, at his residence.
Born on April 23, 1944, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Denzil B. and Georgia (Dexter) Caskey.
He graduated from Central High School, Fort Wayne, with the class of 1962. He served in the U.S. Army. He moved in 1988 from Allen County to Whitley County.
On Oct. 1, 1988, he married Virginia â€śGinnyâ€ť L. Mertz at Saturn Christian Church, Columbia City. He retired from Dana Corporation, Fort Wayne, with 36 years service and prior 10 years with Hi-Fy Gas Stations.
Sharon (Chaffin) (Meitz) Freon, of Fort Wayne, passed away July, 21, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
She graduated from North Side High School in 1957, and was employed as a nurse at Parkview Hospital for 19 Â˝ years.
Upon her retirement she worked at Lutheran Social Services, Allen County Council on Aging and as a realtor with Better Homes and Gardens.
She was also a member at Trinity English Lutheran Church.
Robert Tucker, 71
Robert Lewis Tucker, 71, of rural Churubusco, died July 8, 2012, in Ft Wayne.
Growing up in the blue ridge mountains, young hillbilly Bob enjoyed fishing for rainbow trout, picking up arrowheads behind Harveyâ€™s plow, singing in the church choir, playing the trombone, battling the occasional rattler and filling his lunch box with rocks to save himself from the school bully.
With parents, Paul and Helen Tucker and brother, Wayne, of Charlotte, N.C., the family moved around to follow his fatherâ€™s job.
Gladys Kathryn Holycross, 97, formerly of Urbana, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Blair Ridge Senior Living Community in Peru. She was born Dec. 4, 1914, in Wabash County to Ernest and Emma (Lachmann) Hipskind.
Gladys was a 1933 graduate of Urbana High School. She married David LeRoy Holycross in Wabash on Oct. 1, 1938.
He preceeded her in death Oct. 4, 1963. She was a homemaker. Gladys was a member of the St. Peters United Church of Christ, where she was active in the Womenâ€™s Guild. She loved flowers, gardening, playing Euchre, reading, watching golf and NASCAR racing.
E. Frances Nicodemus, 88, of rural Columbia City, died at 10:25 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at her home.
She was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Laud, a daughter of William and Ethel Mae (Bittner) Hollenbaugh. Her formative years were spent in Washington Township.
On Dec. 25, 1941, she was united in marriage to Keith V. Nicodemus. Shortly after marriage, they made their home in Columbia City and then Union Township.
Betty R. Rhoades, 88, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at Zeeland Community Hospital in Zeeland, Mich. where she lived with her son, Terry.
She was born July 4, 1924, in Bluffton, a daughter of Charles Herbert and Nettie Lillian Rosen.
She attended Washington Center High School while she lived with â€śauntâ€ť Mary as a ward of the court.
On Nov. 2, 1963, she married Donald E. Rhoades. They made their home in Arcola. Mr. Rhoades preceded her in death on May 31, 1984.
She retired from General Electric, Ft. Wayne, in 1972. She owned and operated Rhoades Grocery in Arcola from 1973 to 1975.
Pastor James A. Haugen Sr., 67, of Columbia City, died Thursday, July 19, 2012.
He was born June 26, 1945, in Mandan, N.D., a son of Elmer and Betty Marie (Sempson) Haugen.
He graduated from Concordia High School in Portland, Ore. and continued his education at Concordia College in Portland, Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne and completed his Master of Divinity at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo.
Joe Allen Daniels, 56, of Columbia City, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 15, 2012, at his home.
Born June 28, 1956, in Wolf Lake, he was the son of Richard Nelson and Delores Fay (Watson) Daniels.
He worked at C&R Plating, Columbia City, as a supervisor in Quality Control and Shipping and Receiving.
On Dec. 2, 1989, he married Tammy Krider at West Point United Methodist Church, Columbia City.
A former resident of New Haven and Berrien Springs, Mich., he resided in Columbia City for the past 29 years.
