Barbara J. Halsey, 60, of Columbia City, died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne where she was admitted on July 19.
She was born March 27, 1952, in Columbia City, a daughter of Frank Harold and Dorothy A. (Barnes) Wade Jr. She graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1970.
On March 30, 1974, she was united in marriage to Lonnie M. Halsey. While Lonnie served in the military, they resided in Germany three times, California and Nebraska before returning to Indiana. In 1986, they moved to their home in Columbia City.
Phillip L. Lundblad, 82, of Columbia City, died at 4:10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at his home. He had been in failing health for the past year.
He was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Whitley County, a son of Harold L. and C. Fern (Coolman) Lundblad. A lifelong resident of Columbia City, he graduated from Columbia City High School in 1949.
On Jan. 19, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged Jan. 13, 1953.
On June 19, 1971, he was united in marriage to Linda D. Kitson. They moved to their present home in 1972.
Edwin J. Bear, 90, of Columbia City, died at 5:11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at his residence.
Born June 1, 1922 in Allen County, he was the son of Cassius Elmer and Cecil Lucille (Grayless) Bear.
He graduated from Huntertown High School with the class of 1940. After graduation, he served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.
On July 31, 1946, he married Phyllis Ilene Walker at Coesse United Methodist Church.
Mary L. Slagal, 89, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Columbia City, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at her home.
Born July 19, 1923, in South Bend, she was the daughter of Rollie J. and Alberta J. (Anderberg) Howe.
She attended Riley High School in South Bend. On Aug. 13, 1938, she married Russell D. Slagal in Elkhart.
A former resident of Tri-Lakes, she moved to California in 1977, where she worked for Singer-Kerfott, St. Marcos, retiring in 1988. In 1990, she returned to Whitley County and since 2009, she lived with her daughter in Fort Wayne.
Jack L. Moore, 86, of Columbia City, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at his home.
He was born June 23, 1926, a son of Claude L. and Gladys V. (Burnworth) Moore. He completed his education at Pierceton High School.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
On Feb. 5, 1949, he was united in marriage to Eileen E. Judd. They always made their home in Columbia City, moving to their present home in 1959. Mrs. Moore died Nov. 26, 1988.
He was employed at L. M. & L. and lastly Whitley Equipment.
Theda E. â€śTedâ€ť Hollenbaugh, 90, of rural Columbia City, died at 5:25 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Timbercrest Health Care Center where he had been a resident for the past three years.
He was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Jefferson Township, a son of the late Chester and Essie (Gillam) Hollenbaugh. His formative years were spent in Jefferson Township. He graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1939.
Grace Lucille Sade, 80, a resident of Churubusco and widow of Boyce R. Sade, died 12:38 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2012, at her home.
Born on Jan. 28, 1932, in Cave City, Ark., she was the daughter of William Harrison and Virgie Mae (Brewer) Pinkston.
She moved to Indiana in 1950, and was employed as an operator for the Bell Telephone Company.
On June 1, 1951, she was married to Boyce R. Sade, also from Arkansas.
They resided in Fort Wayne for a period before moving and making Churubusco their home in 1955.
Judy Kreider, 66, of South Whitley died at 7:17 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
She was born Nov. 10, 1945, in Huntington, a daughter of the late Floren and Bernice (Aldridge) Kreider.
Her formative years were spent in South Whitley. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1964.
Following her graduation, she began her career with Lincoln National Life, Fort Wayne. She retired in 2005, with 41 years of service.
She was a member of Pleasant View Church, South Whitley. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting.
Nettie Ellen Ullstrom, 90, of Fort Wayne, died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at the home of her son, Jimmie, where she had been residing since April.
She was born July 5, 1922, in Myland Center, a daughter of Frank C. and Caroline (Federspiel) Chester. Her formative years were spent in Allen County.
In 1961, she was united in marriage to Leslie V. Ullstrom. They always made their home in Allen County. Mr. Ullstrom died in 1990. In 2001, Nettie moved to Deland, Fla. for eight months, then returning to Fort Wayne.
Gwendolyn Mae Barsh, 89, a native of Columbia City, died Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla.
She was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Columbia City, a daughter of Eldon B. and Delta Maud (Egner) Barsh. She graduated from Columbia City High School, received her nursing degree from Wesley Hospital/Northwestern University and completed certification in bookkeeping.
She married Philip Warren Barsh. They made their home in Elmhurst, Ill. Mr. Barsh died Jan. 18, 1983. Gwendolyn moved to Venice, Fla. two years ago from South Whitley.
