Jerry L. Smith 70, of rural Columbia City, died at 6:17 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was admitted on Monday.
He was born April 21, 1942, in Thorncreek Township, he was the son of the late Franklin J. and Una Dell (Bowman) Smith.
His formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township.
He attended Columbia City High School.
On June 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to Marilyn L. Gibson.
They have always made their home in Whitley County.
For the past 35 years, he was the owner and operator of Jerryâ€™s Tire Service in Columbia City.
Margaret Mary â€śMaggieâ€ť (Love) Clifford, 82, of rural Columbia City, died at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor, Columbia City, where she had been a resident since March of 2011.
She was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of James and Mary (Traficanti) Perrella.
Raised in Fort Wayne, she attended St. Vincentâ€™s Catholic School.
On Jan. 29, 1994, she was united in marriage to James R. Clifford. They made their home in Tennessee. In 2002, they moved to rural Columbia City.
She was employed for more than 28 years at Seyfertâ€™s Foods in Fort Wayne.
Robert E. Phend, 83 of South Whitley, passed away at p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, in his residence.
On Dec. 13, 1929, he was born in Columbia City, to Paul and Marie (Wysong) Phend.
He married Marjorie Johnson on July 11, 1953, who survives. Robert retired from International Harvester/Navistar in Fort Wayne.
Other surviving relatives include four children, Norma Schweigel of Columbia City; Michael E. (Sharon) Phend of Pierceton, Rebecca A. Phend of South Whitley and Rose E. Phend of South Whitley; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Daniel James Howard, 69, of Columbia City, passed away at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at his home. Born June 25, 1943, in Warsaw, he was the son of James Boyce and Helen Lucille (Fisher) Howard.
He graduated from Warsaw High School with the Class of 1961.
After graduation, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He earned an Associateâ€™s degree from Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis. On Sept. 5, 1965, he married Ouida Sue Crum in Kossuth, Miss.
Jill Rene (Kuckuck) Weeks, 58, of Columbia City, passed away Nov. 8, 2012, at her home.
She was born Sept. 24, 1954 in Whitley County, daughter of Edgar and Dorothy (Nierman) Kuckuck.
William Henry Smith, 82, of Columbia City, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City. Born Dec. 5, 1929, in Wolf Lake, he was the son of Mickey A. and Ruie Malington (Hile) Smith.
He graduated from Wolf Lake High School with the Class of 1949. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in October, 1954.
On April 12,1974, he married Nancy (Mettler) Wagner at Reverend Graham Kleespieâ€™s home in Columbia City.
Judith Hosler, age 85, of Columbia City, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the Heritage, Huntington.
Born on May 24, 1927, in Noble County, she was the daughter of Reverend Valmont and F. Beryl (Weeks) Fry.
She has lived in Whitley County her entire life and attended Columbia City High School for 10 years and received her GED later in life.
On January 12, 1947, she married Kenneth C. Hosler in Columbia City. She worked at Blue Bell and Columbia Products, Columbia City, before she and her husband opened Hoslerâ€™s TV Store.
Martha J. Reid, 76, of Columbia City, died at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne where she was admitted on Friday.
She was born Dec. 27, 1935, in Wolf Lake, a daughter of Thomas H. and Helen E. (Cole) Carter. Her lifetime was spent in Whitley County and Pierceton, for 16 years, where she completed her education.
On July 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Reid. In 1959, they moved to their home on Loon Lake. Mr. Reid died July 19, 1994. Since August 1995, Martha has made her home in Columbia City.
Harold Ellsworth Harmon, 93, of Columbia City, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at his home.
Born on March 18, 1919, in Marshall County, he was the son of William E. and Blanche (Waddle) Harmon.
He attended Tippecanoe High School, Marshall County. He lived in Allen County and moved to Whitley County in 1978.
On Dec. 31, 1940, he married Anita C. (McCutcheon) Harmon in Fort Wayne.
Mary L. Downen, 69, passed away Oct. 30, 2012, at her home in Fort Wayne.
Born Nov. 9, 1942, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late David and Ruth Hostetter.
She married Bobby Downen in 1969. Surviving relatives include her husband, a daughter and two granddaughters.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Columbia City.
