Charles Stephen Kleman, Sr., 81, of Columbia City, passed away at 1:08 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his home.
Born on Sept. 16, 1932, in Johnstown, Pa., he was the son of John Kleman Sr. and Julia (Tuschak) Kleman.
He graduated from Johnstown High School with the Class of 1950. He served in the Marines during the Korean War. He moved to Columbia City in 1979.
He retired from Magnavox Co. after 30 years of service and then took a position as Merchandise Stocker with Scottâ€™s Food Market. He had been a member of Columbia City Church of Christ and the VFW.
Barbara Joan Faris, 71 of Pierceton, passed away at 7:22 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, in Masonâ€™s Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.
On Aug. 19, 1942, she was born in Kosciusko County to Dale and Frances (Rush) Plew.
She married Terry L. Faris April 3, 1965, in Silver Lake. He preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 2004.
Barbara moved to Pierceton in 1950, where she graduated from Pierceton High School in 1960.
Melvin C. Van Meter, Sr., 76, of Andrews, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his residence.
Melvin attended Andrews High School. He attended Fullerton State University in California. He was a member of the South Broadway Church of Christ.
He was born April 15, 1937, in Huntington, a son of Fred M. and Helen (Schattu) Van Meter.
He was united in marriage to Pat (Lusch) Van Meter Rowen, she preceded him in death in 2003. He later married Penelope (Whitesel) Eley on July 31, 2004, in Huntington. His wife survives.
Marilyn I. Walker, 83, of Columbia City, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at her residence with her loving family surrounding her.
Born July 10, 1930 in Waveland, she was the daughter of Bazil Jackson and Venia (Bowles) Jackson-Deaton.
She grew up in the Whitley and Noble County areas before making her home in Whitley County. Marilyn attended school in Whitley County and Noble Counties.
Sharon Louise Harris, 79, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away Oct. 11, 2013.
She was born in Elkhart on Oct. 30, 1933 to the late Ira and Mildred Webber.
Sharon was a loving mother and grandmother. Her passion as a homemaker was gardening, and she was a member of the Garden Club.
Surviving relatives include her sons, David (Angela ) Harris and Van Harris; brothers, Bill Webber and J.T. Webber; sister, Gini Lefkowicz; and grandson, Connor. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Van Thomas Harris; son, Michael Harris; and daughter, Christine Harris.
Janice Forster 93, of Rockford, Ill. and formerly a 50-year resident of Cherry Valley, Ill. died peacefully Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2013, in Presence Cor Mariae.
Janice was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Columbia City, the daughter of Dr. Benjamin and Vera Isabell (Refner) Pence.
Norman Dale Gordon, 84, of Columbia City, passed away unexpectedly at 8:54 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at his residence.
Born July 5, 1929, in Tipton, he was the son of Edward and Mabel (Geiger) Gordon.
Norman grew up in several locations, but spent a great deal of his childhood in Churubusco and graduated from North Webster High School with the Class of 1947.
He married Margie Alice Gaerte Dec. 24, 1950, at Rev. Marion Shroyerâ€™s parsonage in Columbia City.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served as a weapons mechanic.
LeAnn Rosen, 66, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at her home after an extended illness due to cancer.
Born on Sept. 13, 1947, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Kenneth C. and Judith (Fry) Hosler.
She graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1965. Upon her graduation she immediately entered the insurance field working for more than 25 years, first for Keith Dowell, John Lefever and currently was employed as an insurance agent for Star Insurance.
Rachel M. Verba, 89, formerly of Columbia City, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 9, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Liz, in Noblesville where she had been residing since August 2012.
She was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Whitley County, a daughter of Leo and Huldah J. (Palmer) Miller.
Her formative years were spent in Richland Township. She graduated from Larwill High School and completed her nurseâ€™s training at Ball State.
Kenneth James Trout, 81, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home.
He was born May 18, 1932, in Scottsbluff, Neb., a son of the late Clifford J. and Evelyn E. (Howell) Trout.
His formative years were spent in west Nebraska. The family then moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he graduated from high school. He received a Bachelorâ€™s of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona and a Masters in Business Administration from Indiana University.
He served in the U.S. Air Force until 1956.
