Wayne R. Pettigrew, 61, of rural Columbia City, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 2, 2013, at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1952 in Columbia City, a son of Robert Lavere and Norma Jean (Longsworth) Pettigrew.
His formative years were spent in Jefferson Township. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School.
In January 1972, he began his employment at Dana Corporation, Fort Wayne.
In 1974 he moved to his current home. On Feb. 14, 1985, he was united in marriage to Karen A. Nulf.
Doyle G. Sweeney, 96, of Sebring, Fla., passed away, Aug. 28, 2013, in Coldwater, Mich.
Doyle was born in Columbia City, son of the late Perry and Beulah (Sellers) Sweeney.
Prior to moving to Sebring he was a fruit and vegetable inspector for northern Indiana.
In 1957, Doyle moved to Sebring and he and his late wife Jean, developed Sweeneyâ€™s Mobile Home Park and he also owned Sweeneyâ€™s Aluminum Products.
Doyle joined the Elks in 1946 in Whitley County, and is a past exhaulted ruler of Sebring Elks Lodge and past district deputy of the South Florida Elks.
Evelyn L. Stangland, 76, a resident of rural Albion and widow of Rex E. Stangland, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at her home in Noble Township following an extended illness.
Mrs. Stangland was born Nov. 4, 1936, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Franklin and Annetta (McNeal) Gaff. She spent her formative years in York Township in Noble County and graduated from Albion High School in 1954.
Devona J. Berg, 80, of Big Lake, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born Aug. 24, 1933, in Etna Troy Township, she was the daughter of Chester K. Myers and Ruth (Shaffer) Myers-Hurd.
She is a lifetime resident of Whitley County and graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1951. On Aug. 7, 1971, she married James C. Berg in Columbia City.
She worked at Bond Flex Rubber, Columbia City, with 15 years of service. Devona enjoyed collecting crystal figurines in her free time.
John Lee Gamble, 65, of Fort Wayne, and formerly of Churubusco, passed away at his home Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013.
He was born Oct. 28, 1947, a son of Doyle Gamble and Margery (Huntley) Heald, and a grandson of Cecil and Mae Huntley Sr.
Mr. Gamble served in U.S. Marine Corps and was a lifetime employee of Northern Indiana Public Service Company.
Terry Alan Hammel, 68, Jacksonville, Fla., and formerly of Huntington, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at 10:50 p.m. at the Haven Hospice in Orange, Fla.
Mr. Hammel was born May 23, 1945, in Huntington, to Meredith Luther and Marion Jean Steele Hammel.
His mother survives and resides in Huntington. His father preceded him in death on July 1, 2004. Mr. Hammel married Connie Rae Reckard Aug. 13, 1965 in Huntington. She survives and resides in Florida.
Linda S. Hutton-Reiling, 65, of Churubusco, passed away at 9:56 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne, after a courageous battle with cancer and with her loving family surrounding her.
Born Jan. 12, 1948, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Alfred S. and Eileen V. (Holmes) Hutton-Rennecker.
Brenda L. Vance, 56, Rochester, Indiana , died Aug. 25, 2013, at 4:46 p.m. at her residence.
She was born May 18, 1957, in Wabash, to Bill and Pat (Rife) Vance.
She worked at Hart, Schafner and Marx for 25 years, McDonalds, and spent many years as a Home Caregiver.
She attended the Church of Latter Day Saints, Logansport.
Brenda truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, bike riding, garage sales, and camping.
Eleanor J. Swinehart, 82, a resident of rural Churubusco and widow of George R. Swinehart, passed away Monday afternoon, Aug. 26, 2013, in Lewisville, Tx.
She had become unexpectedly ill in February while visiting her daughter in Lantana, Tx. Mrs. Swinehart was born in Fort Wayne Aug. 17, 1931, a daughter of Eli and Alice (Lochner) Nicolet. She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne, and graduated from Northside High School in 1949.
Murray Michael Graves, 63, of Claypool, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at 9:01 p.m. at Parkview North Hospital of Fort Wayne.
He was born Feb. 3, 1950, in Fort Wayne, to Murray E. and Mary E. (Sheets) Graves.
He was raised in Larwill, and graduated from Larwill High School in 1968 where he was an outstanding basketball player. He began working for R.R. Donnelley and Sons in June of 1968 and retired in February of 2012 after 44 years of service. He loved NASCAR, coaching and watching his son Chad in baseball.
