Michael S. Farrer, 63, of Columbia City, passed away at 5 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at his home on Tri-Lakes surrounded by his family.
Born Sept. 24, 1949, in Grand Island, Neb.Mike was the son of Chauncey and Maryellen (Waddick) Farrer.
He was an independent contractor as a brick mason. He loved his family, riding his Harley and lake sports.
Rex Harold Hoover, 80, of Churubusco, passed at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at his home.
Born Jan. 24, 1933, in Roanoke, he was the son of William Dale and Clarissa Mary (Harvey) Hoover.
Rex was raised in Roanoke and he graduated from Roanoke High School with the Class of 1951. He was inducted into the Huntington County Sports Hall of Fame in 1978 in basketball at the P.A.L. recreation center. He served in the U.S. Army.
Nellie Jean Bishop, 89, a former resident of South Whitley, died at 9 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester, where she had been a resident since 2010.
She was born March 13, 1924, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of the late Ralph and Sylvia (Ditton) Cullers.
She began her schooling in Fort Wayne and then the family moved to Columbia City where she completed her elementary school. She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1942.
David W. Harriett, 75, of Columbia City, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Bluffton. He was born Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1937, in Bluffton.
He married Heidi (Wiegmann) Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000 in Bluffton. Mr. Harriett retired from Phelps-Dodge in Fort Wayne as a computer programmer. David was a 1955 graduate of Pennville High School, a member of the Pennville Masonic Lodge where he received his 50 year pin in May, and a member of the First Church of Christ in Bluffton.
Eugene E. Pflueger, 83, of Big Lake, Columbia City, passed away at 12:43 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. He was born January 12, 1930, in Fort Wayne, the son of Henry Oscar and Mildred Ruth (Dennis) Pflueger.
Surviving relatives include his wife, daughter, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, and brother.
Rosalie Steller, 85 passed away Jan. 9, 2013, in Meza, Ariz. Graveside services will be held May 22 at 10 a.m. at the South Whitley Cemetery. DeMoney-Grimes Counryside Park Funeral Home is handling the services.
Shirley Ann Murphy, 78, of Columbia City passed away at 9:34 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor Inc., Columbia City. Born March 23, 1935, in Muncie, she was the daughter of Clarence and Elizabeth (Doth) Tucker.
The memorial service for L.M. â€śLeeâ€ť Kilgore, 97, who died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, has been set for 4 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with a reception following at Smith & Sons Coach Room. Preferred memorials are to Community Bible Church.
Glenn â€śSpikeâ€ť R. Martin, 87, of Columbia City, passed away at 8:51 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at his home. Born March 25, 1926, in Etna, he was the son of Chester Edward and Nita Gertrude (Keister) Martin.
He lived his entire life in Etna, graduating from North Webster High School with the Class of 1944. On Dec. 30, 1949, he married Boneta â€śBonnieâ€ť Vesta Coverstone. Together they spent 63 years in Etna. He worked at Weatherhead, Columbia City, as a set-up operator for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Glenn was an avid Cubs baseball fan and IU basketball fan, and farming was his life.
Diane S. Jordan, 68, of Huntertown, passed away at 3:27 am, Monday, May 13, 2013, at her daughterâ€™s home. Born March 3, 1945, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Kenneth C. and Dorothy L. (Harmeyer) Young.
She lived in Fort Wayne and then moved to Whitley County as a child. She graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1963. She worked as a waitress at various locations in Whitley County, Tri-Lake Tavern most recently.
