Laddie L. â€śLaddâ€ť Slavicek, 80, died at 10:44 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, after becoming suddenly ill at his residence.
He was born in St. Joseph, Mich. May 17, 1933, the son of Anton and Anna (Josek) Slavicek.
Ladd grew up in a large family in the St. Joseph area graduated from St. Joseph High School with the Class of 1951, where he played football and basketball.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War.
He married Jeannine J. Swank March 26, 1966, at St. Joseph Trinity Lutheran Church.
Wathina Ilene Bentz, 87, of Columbia City, died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at University Park Nursing Center in Fort Wayne, where she had been a resident since 2010.
She was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Whitley County, a daughter of Joseph and Orpha (Anderson) Coy. She spent her formative years in the Wolf Lake area.
On Oct. 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to Verlin Bentz. They made their home in Allen County later moving to the lake areas in Whitley County. Mr. Bentz died Jan. 6, 2013.
Roderick Allison King, 83, of Columbia City, died at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born Oct. 3, 1930, in DeKalb County, a son of the late Harold and Henrietta (Packer) King. His formative years were spent in Butler. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1948.
He served as a reservist for the U.S. Navy.
On Nov. 29, 1981, he was united in marriage to Rhonda Konoloff. They made their home in Columbia City.
Born and raised in Indiana, he married Maralee V. Hill on June, 24, 1945.
James is the son of Constance and William H. Watson, and have preceded him in death.
James has three living sisters, Mrs. Olive Boggs, Mrs. Evelyn Moore, and Mrs. Sylvia Swoerland; and one living brother, Robert Watson. Four brothers and three sisters proceeded him in death.
James has two children, Linda Carol Blake and Daniel Riley Watson; four grandchildren, Joel Douglas Blake, Jeri Dee Blake, James W. Watson, and Robert M. Watson; and one great-grand daughter, Alivia Joy Watson.
Tag Hunter, 50, of Leesburg, passed away Feb. 22, 2014.
He was born Nov. 21, 1963, to Frederick and Joan (Porman) Hunter.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Indika Marie Hunter; two sons, Courtney (Pam Carlin) Knisley and Isaac Levi Hunter; two grandchildren; companion, Carla (Leamons) Kelley; father, Fred Hunter of Columbia City; and three brothers, Rocky Lane (Danette) Hunter, Shad Lynn (Crystal) Hunter of Columbia City, and Lofty Lee (Karen Kokovay) Hunter.
Timothy D. Hearld, age 43, of Larwill, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, in Newberry, Mich.
Although he accomplished so much of which to be proud, Tim was a humble man whose heart beat to make a difference in the world around him. A lifelong resident of the community he loved, through the generosity of both his time and resources he made a significant impact in the lives of countless others.
Infant Wyatt Glenn McKinley, of Columbia City, was sent up to Heaven Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.
He was delivered at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
Wyatt is survived by his loving parents, Robert E. McKinley and Sara D. Gutierrez. They both reside in Columbia City.
Bernard â€śBernieâ€ť George Reust, 87 of Huntington went to be with the Lord Feb. 16, 2014, at the University of Arizona Medical Center/Kino Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.
He left school to serve his country in the U.S. Army and received the Bronze Star while serving in World War II in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton. He was wounded in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart.
He was a member of the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was a former member of the Parish Council. He was a former member of the Saint Catherine Catholic Church in Columbia City.
Mary â€śJaneâ€ť Londt, 65, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.
Born in Celina, Ohio, Jane graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Celina, Ohio and St. Ritaâ€™s School of Nursing in Lima, Ohio.
Jane was a registered nurse for McCray and Parkview Noble Hospitals for 32 years, retiring in 2010, and also co-owned CPR+ since 1989.
Merle F. Stienbarger, 91, of Churubusco, passed away at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at home in Churubusco.
Mr. Stienbarger was born June 6, 1922, in Brimfield, a son of Walter Samuel and Geneva (Cler) Stienbarger.
He spent his formative years in Allen County, and graduated from Huntertown High School.
On Jan. 15, 1941, he was married in Columbia City to Eunice Willene Jones, and moved to his present farm in Eel River Township in 1954.
He was a lifelong Eel River Township farmer, was employed as an independent contractor, and also worked at McCoy Lumber.
