George W. Atkinson, 78, of Columbia City, passed away at 6:02 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born Nov. 27, 1936 in Coudersport, Pa., he was the son of George “Will” and Violet (Peet) Atkinson.
He graduated from Coudersport High School with the Class of 1954 and served in the U.S. Air Force with time spent in Labrador. In 1961, he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology.

Florence E. Keiser, 102, formerly of Columbia City, died at 7:27 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Muncie where she had been a resident since March.
She was born Oct. 27, 1912 in Whitley County, a daughter of Elmer Franklin and Dessie Belle (Smith) Schrader. Her formative years were spent in Columbia Township where she had perfect attendance at the Schrader School all eight years.

Corwin A. “Corky” Draper, 94, of Huntington, passed away at 2:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 at The Heritage of Huntington.
Corwin was born Aug. 15, 1920 in Huntington, a son of Joseph A. and Edith C. (Dinius) Draper.
He was united in marriage to Margaret K. Weiford on July 17, 1943 in Huntington. His wife survives. Additional survivors include four children. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Joan ‘Smoke’ Heinley, 84

Joan A. “Smoke” Heinley, 84, of Columbia City, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at Heritage of Huntington where she had been a resident since January 2011.
She was born April 22, 1930 in the Linvill Hospital in Columbia City, a daughter of Virgil E. and Ethel M. (Schinbeckler) Heinley. Her formative years were spent in Columbia City. She graduated from Columbia City High School and attended college in Kentucky.
She was employed at Mullendore’s Confectionary for many years, Chamberlin Products for over 10 years and Viking Inc. for 14 years.

Michael J. Cook, 70

Michael J. Cook, 70, of Auburn, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.
He was born Oct. 20, 1944 in Columbia City, Ind. a son of Wave Eugene and Marilyn Virginia (Mossburg) Cook. His formative years were spent in Union Township, Whitley County. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School and was the 1963 Honor Blanket recipient. He continued his education at Butler University where he played football for a year.
On Sept. 12, 1966 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged Sept. 11, 1972.

Harry P. Chalk, 84, of Columbia City, died at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014 at his home.
He was born Aug. 1, 1930 in Champaign, Ill., a son of Joseph and Lena (McLaughlin) Chalk. As a young boy, his family moved to Sidney where he completed his education.
On Aug. 9, 1948 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean War from which he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged Aug. 10, 1954

Carolyn Ann Stidham, 65, of Columbia City, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 3:55 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014.
She was born Jan. 12, 1949 in Warsaw, Ind., a daughter of Roy Elmer and Ruth Joan (Brower) Combs. She graduated from South Whitley High School and Patricia Stevens Air Career College in Chicago.
On May 7, 1971 she was united in marriage to David B. Stidham. They have always made their home in Richland Township, Whitley County.
After 34 years of service, Carolyn retired from Zimmer this year.

Rozella ‘Rosie’ Wolfe, 92

Rozella A. “Rosie” Wolfe, 92, of Columbia City, died at 4:37 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne where she was admitted that Monday.
She was born April 7, 1922 in Huntington County, a daughter of Edward J. and Isabella A. (Scher) Scheiber. Her formative years were spent in the Huntington-Whitley County Line area. She was educated in the Clear Creek Township High School.
On Aug. 4, 1962 she was united in marriage to William H. Wolfe. They made their home on a farm west of Columbia City. Mr. Wolfe died Oct. 12, 1990.

Frank D. Boggs, 84, of Columbia City, passed away from injuries sustained in a two car accident Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born Dec. 22, 1929 in Thorncreek Township of Whitley County, he was the son of Thomas and Mary J. (Widup) Boggs.
