CHURUBUSCO â€” Fred Delmar Swindell, 80, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne after a brief illness.
He lived in Churubusco for the last 35 years.
Born in LaPorte Dec 19, 1931, to the late Daniel W. Swindell and Dorothy E. (Dilts) Swindell, he lived most of his early life in Idaville where he graduated from high school.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War serving most of his time on the U.S.S. Essex.
He worked in several occupations including agriculture, high steel structures, restaurant management, law enforcement and sheet metal.
Susan Amy Adams, 54, of Columbia City, passed away at 11:29 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Born Nov. 29, 1957, in Columbia City, she was the daughter of H. Wesley and Madonna Rose (Martz) Adams.
She lived in Allen and Whitley counties her entire lifetime and had a family cottage at Tri Lakes since 1957.
She graduated from Elmhurst High School with the class of 1976 and received an associateâ€™s degree in accounting from Fort Wayne International Business College.
She worked at the world headquarters of Do It Best Hardware in New Haven, as an accountant.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Marian M. Hanish, 88, of rural Columbia City, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor.
She was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Allen County, a daughter of William and Lucy (Summers) Fulk.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Roxanne L. Schulze of Cold Spring, Texas; a son, Brian R. (Lisa) Bowers of Columbia City; two grandchildren, Amanda Schmidt and Sylas Bowers; and two great-granddaughters, Faith and Ella Schmidt; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Fulk of Laotto.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Cliff Fulk, Hugh Fulk and Robert Fulk.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Mabel Fisher, 89, a former resident of Churubusco and more recently of Etna Green, passed away at 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at her home.
She was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Chicago, a daughter of John and Rose (Herman) Fisher.
Survivors include a sister, Catherine Fisher of Fort Wayne.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Fisher.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Paul D. White, pastor of Churubusco Church of the Nazarene, officiating.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Nick S. Leisinger, 24, of Columbia City, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at his home.
He was born Feb. 27, 1988, in Waverly, Iowa, a son of Steven R. and Teresa L. (White) Leisinger.
In 1991, his family moved to Angola and later to Marion before moving to Silver Lake.
In December, 2006, Nick moved to his home in Columbia City.
He was employed at B.E. Computers and previously at Alpha Products in Elkhart.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” J. Pauline Gottschalk, 83, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Renaissance Village where she had been a resident since March of 2009.
She was born March 14, 1928, in Madison County, a daughter of Arte O. and Mabel M. (Cloud) Ice.
Her formative years were spent in Summitville.
She graduated from Summitville High School.
On Oct. 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lester H. Gottschalk.
They made their home on a farm near South Whitley. In 1979, they moved to their home in South Whitley. Mr. Gottschalk died Feb. 17, 1980.
Danny Dwayne Morgan, 66, of Bluffton and formerly of Naples, Fla., died at 1:47 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Morgan was born in Muncie on July 4, 1945, to Paul Earnest Morgan and Mary Alice Knapp Morgan.
He married Debborah Lynn Cowan in Beaufort, S.C., on Sept. 30, 1966. She survives in Naples, Fla.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Lawrence â€śLarryâ€ť W. Pressler, 62, of Columbia City, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born March 19, 1949, in Wabash, a son of Larry G. and Betty (Stark) Pressler.
His formative years were spent in South Whitley.
He graduated from South Whitley High School in 1967. He then attended Sams Technical Institute, Indianapolis.
On June 19, 1971, he was united in marriage to Melanie J. Kyler. They made their home in Columbia City.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” RenĂ©e Gilberte Juilette Surget Stewart, 96, of Columbia City, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at her daughter Alice Kinzerâ€™s home in Beaverton, Ore. where she had resided since 2010.
She was born July 21, 1915, in Chailland, Mayenne, France, the fifth child of Louis and Marie-Louise Surget.
Her formative years were spent in Paris, where she attended and graduated as a lab technician from Scientia-Private School in Paris in 1937.
ALBION â€” James M. â€śJimâ€ť Earnhart, 83, well known Noble County farmer and a resident of rural Albion, passed away at 12:19 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville following a lengthy illness.
He had been taken to the hospital from his home earlier in the day.
Mr. Earnhart was born March 12, 1928, in Kosciusko County, a son of Arby Nelson and Mary (Doke) Earnhart, and moved to Green Township in Noble County as a child with his parents.
He spent his formative years on the family farm there and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1947.
