Richard Murphy, 61, of Churubusco, died at 11:07 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born June 17, 1950, in Fort Wayne, a son of Richard Wells and Ruth (Parker) Murphy.
He served in the U.S. Army, spending one year in Vietnam.
On July 31, 1971, he married Cheryl Dray. She survives.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Willard J. Gilbert, 69, of Churubusco, passed away at 12:41 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Gilbert was born Dec. 6, 1942, in Churubusco, a son of Oscar E. and Icellee (Winebrenner) Gilbert. He spent his formative years in Churubusco, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1960.
On April 3, 1964, he was married in Albion to Carol Sue Winebrenner.
His spouse preceded him in death on March 9, 1986.
Gary E. Brubaker, 64, of Pierceton, passed away at 6:24 a.m. on Saturday May 26, 2012, in Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne.
He was born Oct. 8, 1947, in Wabash to Wayne B. and Betty J. (Duhamell) Brubaker
Gary married Gloria England in Wabash on April 26, 1970.
He had resided in Pierceton for the past 35 years, where he was a member of the Pierceton United Methodist Church.
He was previously employed by Pierceton Foods and was currently working for Wabash Electric in Warsaw.
He was a Volunteer for the Pierceton Fire Department, retiring with 30 years of service.
Brian J. Bloom, 62, a resident of Des Plaines Illinois, died on May 7, 2012, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge Il., following a brief illness.
NEW HAVEN â€” Allen L. Plasterer, 79, of New Haven, died at 7:15 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012, at Golden Years Homestead where he had been a resident since 2009.
He was born Feb. 13, 1933, in Fort Wayne, a son of Richard W. and Myrtle (Lee) Plasterer.
On Feb. 1, 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War.
On Jan. 29, 1983, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline L. Ramp.
Buna C. Head, 97, a resident of Blue Lake near Churubusco, died at 12:21 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Parkview Oaks in Columbia City.
She was born July 28, 1914, in Huntington County, a daughter of Arthur C. and Mary Ann (Shidler) Myers.
On June 21, 1953 she married Harry W. Head.
He preceded her in death Nov. 18, 1974.
Surviving relatives include her daughters, Nancy Murphree of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Marilyn â€śSusieâ€ť Koker of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Helen E. â€śGeneâ€ť Lahr, 93, of rural Columbia City, died Friday morning, May 18, 2012, at Renaissance Village.
She was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Garrett, a daughter of John F. and Florence (Ladig) Osterman.
In 1936, she married Floyd Ervin Hall. He died in 1944.
On May 21, 1945, she married Lester E. Lahr.
He died Sept. 28, 1995.
Surviving relatives include two children, Carol Gillum and Robert Lahr, all of Churubusco; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a brother, Martin Osterman of Fort Wayne.
Beverly (Cowles) Smith-Pullen, 81, of Columbia City, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at her home on her beloved Shriner Lake.
Born Oct. 17, 1930, in LaOtto, she was the daughter of Ed and Eleanor (Walda) Cowles.
She attended South Side High School, Fort Wayne.
She married John R. Pullen in 1975 and lived most of her life in Allen and Whitley counties.
Bev worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne for more than 25 years and was a member of Elex Club, Zion Lutheran Church and United Community Travelerâ€™s of America.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Helen Marie Williams, 84, of rural Columbia City, died at 12:24 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne where she was admitted on Wednesday.
She was born June 26, 1927, in Monroeville, a daughter of Cecil E. and Carol L. (Dager) DeWert. She completed her education at Monroeville High School.
On Nov. 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to Thomas J. Williams Jr.
From 1953 until 1978 they made their home at Blue Lake before moving to Colorado for two years. In 1980 they returned to the rural Columbia City area.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Jessie Maxine Romine, 87, of Columbia City, died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Parkview Oaks where she had been a resident since July 2011.
She was born April 4, 1925, in Branch County, Mich., a daughter of Ray and Delilah (Hulse) Brown. As a teenager, her family moved to Auburn. She graduated from Auburn High School.
Following her high school graduation, she worked for Warner Gear for three years, the principal at Auburn High School. She also worked at Royal Industries for three years.
