Alfred H. Bierbaum, 96, of Columbia City, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Oaks Nursing Facility.
Born April 9, 1915, in Fort Wayne, he retired after 37 years with General Electric.
He was a member of Dunfee Missionary Church.
He is survived by two sons, Edward Alan Bierbaum, of Larwill and Lawrence William Bierbaum, of Wittman, Ariz; a daughter, Janis Ann (Keith) Saggars, of Columbia City; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn E. in 2008 and parents, William F. and Emma F. Bierbaum.
Mildred L. Keel, 93, of rural South Whitley, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012, at Peabody Retirement Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since December, 2010.
She was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Fowler, Ind., a daughter of William Warner and Leafie (Lockhart) VanDeripe.
When she was nine, her family moved to a farm southwest of South Whitley, where she has since resided.
She graduated from South Whitley High School.
On July 3, 1945, she was united in marriage to William L. Keel.
A homemaker, she worked a short time at Blue Bell. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Clarene Reid, 65, of Ligonier, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 27, 1946, in Goshen, to Clair W. and Phyllis A. (Bitner) Archer.
On Aug. 1, 1965, in Cromwell, she married Paul A. Reid, who survives in Ligonier.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Samuel Curry, 77, of rural South Whitley, died at 6:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born July 5, 1934, in Bloomington, a son of Charles Wilber and Inez May (Burks) Curry.
He is survived by his wife, Julieta; two daughters, Tana Baker, Ellettsville, and Sabrina D. Faust, St. Johns, Fla.; four sons, Samuel J. Curry, Columbia City, Charles B. Curry, Andrews, John C, Curry, Florida, and Brandon Y. Curry, South Whitley; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
John R. McKinney, 82, a resident of rural Eel River Township in Allen County, died at 8:56 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1930, in Lebanon, a son of Vern and Katherine (Hunt) McKinney.
He served with the U.S. Army.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Margaret A. McKinney; a son John R. McKinney, Jr. of Norwood, Mo.; a daughter, Janice R. Ogg of Eel River Township; his brother, David Joe McKinney of Thorntown; and three grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
E. Ilene Richardson, 84, of Columbia City, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012, at Covington Meadows, Fort Wayne.
Born Nov. 15, 1927, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Paul H. and Irene (Ferrell) Shroyer.
In 1937 she moved from Allen County to her present home in Whitley County.
She attended Jefferson Township Elementary School and graduated with the class of 1945 from Jefferson Township High School.
On Nov. 10, 1951, she married William D. Richardson in Columbia City.
Floyd Mettler, 91, of Longwood, Fla., passed away at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Longwood Health Care Center, Longwood, Fla.
Born June 26, 1920, in Whitley County, he was the son of Floyd E. and Edna P. (Leer) Mettler.
He attended the Columbia City public school system. On Aug. 22, 1937, he married Dorothy E. Corning in Columbia City.
A resident of Allen and Whitley County areas most of his lifetime, he moved to New Carlisle, Ohio in 2000.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Marvin Lee Reynolds, 77, of Columbia City, died at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Parkview Oaks where he was admitted on Friday.
He was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Greenville, Ohio, a son of Miles E. and Marjorie D. (Hodge) Reynolds.
As a young boy, his family moved to Fort Wayne and then in 1937 to Wolf Lake. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School.
On July 11, 1957, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. A military policeman, he was honorably discharged June 30, 1963.
Dorothy P. Wheeler, 90, of South Whitley, passed away at 9 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at her home.
Born on March 5, 1922, in Leiters Ford, she was the daughter of Charles and Nellie (Fisher) Campbell.
She moved from LaPorte to South Whitley, and lived there for 40 years.
She worked at Dana Weatherhead, Columbia City as an assembler for 15 years. She was a member of New Hope Wesleyan Church, Columbia City.
Harry James â€śJimmyâ€ť Dailey, age 68, of Columbia City, died at 9:28 a.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Born July 4, 1943, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Harry E. and Mildred L. (Pelkey) Gill-Dailey.
He graduated from Central High School, Fort Wayne with the class of 1962.
After graduation, he served in the Army National Guard of Indiana as a reserve.
He moved from Fort Wayne to Whitley County in 1974.
