James Wilcox, 77

September 17, 2014

James M. Wilcox, 77 of Fort Wayne and formerly of Big Lake, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, in Columbia City.
Surviving are two daughters, Tammy Azar (Bryon) Yoder of Big Lake and Beverly Weber of Boston, Mass; a stepson, Bobby Chunn of Louisiana; a stepdaughter Deborah Wilkinson of Fort Wayne; three granddaughters, Elizabeth (Scotty) Kessler, Samantha Geschwind, and R. Renee Azar and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death his brother, William Wilcox and one great-grandson, Donovan Kessler.

John Greene, 42

John Paul Greene, 42, passed away Sept. 12, 2014, in Lima, Ohio.
He was born to Stanley Martin and Peggy (Watkins) Greene Nov. 1, 1971, in Fort Wayne.
He graduated from Huntington High School with the Class of 1990 and been a sign maker for Johnson Brothers in South Whitley and Signs Source USA in Lima.
John was well-known to be generous of spirit, a loving and compassionate family member, and hard-working.

Ray Ashbaugh, 96

Ray E. Ashbaugh, 96, a resident of rural Fort Wayne and long time Lake Township farmer, passed away at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at the Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne where he had been a patient for the past 11 months.
Mr. Ashbaugh was born May 19, 1918, in Van Wert, Ohio, a son of Alva and Marvel (Shaw) Ashbaugh, and spent his formative years there.
He was married in Van Wert in 1943 to Helen M. Craft and moved to Lafayette Township in Allen County in 1945 where he lived until moving to his present farm home in Lake Township in 1957.

C. Harold Polk, 86

September 15, 2014

Rev. C. Harold Polk, 86, of Columbia City, died at 8:10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at his home.
He was born June 9, 1928, in Kokomo, a son of Clarence Branch and Nellie Dorothy (Bird) Polk.
He graduated from Kokomo High School and Klotzing College in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
On Sept. 2, 1951, he was united in marriage to Donna L. Polk. They made their home in various Wesleyan parsonages including Martinsville for two years, Kokomo for 10 years total, Peru for three years, Kingford Heights for four years, Green Center for two years and Larwill for 14 years.

Marvin Craig, 85

Marvin R. Craig, 85, of rural Columbia City, died at 9:07 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2014 at Miller’s Merry Manor.
He was born May 12, 1929, in Fort Wayne, a son of Ward F. and Arlene (Otis) Craig. He completed his education at Central High School.
On Nov. 22, 1958, he married Leola J. Yeager. They made their home in Fort Wayne and later Leo, moving to their present home in 1983.

G. Eugene Hively, 84

G. Eugene “Gene” Hively, 84, a resident of rural Columbia City, died at 10:08 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at Parkview Oaks where he had been a resident since last month.
He was born Sept. 27, 1929, in Whitley County, the only child of Ralph and Violet (Goodman) Hively.
His formative years were spent in Smith Township until 1944 when his family moved to Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1947.

Marilyn McKinney, 73

Marilyn J. McKinney, 73, formerly of Albion, passed away at 2:21 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2014.
Born July 7, 1941 in Kokomo, she was the daughter of Charles L. and Vivian F. (Willis) Baker.
Survivors include four daughters, four sons, three brothers, two sisters, a sister-in-law, a friend, 33 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Charles L. and Vivian F. (Willis) Baker, husband, William R. McKinney; son, William R. McKinney Jr.; sister, Wanda M. Baker; and brother, Seth L. Baker.

Dorcas Pressler, 81

Aug. 22, 1933 — Sept. 12, 2014
Dorcas J. Pressler, 81, a resident of Churubusco and widow of Donald “Tod” Pressler, passed away at 1:54 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at Lutheran Life Villages Pine Valley in Fort Wayne, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Pressler was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Noble County, a daughter of Ted and Carnie (Herron) Pippenger. She spent her formative years on the family farm.
On July 16, 1949, she was married in Merriam to Donald J. “Tod” Pressler, and had lived in the Churubusco area all of her adult life.

Charles Hill

Charles Hill, formerly of South Bend, passed Sept. 9, 2014, at The Oaks Nursing Home in Columbia City.
He is survived by his daughter, Janice (Robert) Barkley of Loon Lake, Columbia City.
A celebration of his life will be at their home Sunday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Sarah Anne Foote Salas, 54, passed away in her sleep, July 24, 2014, in Cicero, Ill. She was born in Churubusco at Blue Lake.
She is survived by sons, Roberto and Carlos (Rebecca) Salas; one grand-daughter, Izellah Salas; and her brother, Mark (Darlene) Foote, of South Whitley.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Foote and Rosalie Foote Tuttle, her sisters, Rosalie Foote Twaits and Caroline, and brothers, Kim and Victor Foote.
