Carl E. Becker, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 12:31 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Born May 7, 1923, in Pulaski County, he was the son of Peter and Matilda (Moise) Becker.
He graduated from Winamac High School with the Class of 1941. Carl served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-46.
Rosalie Steller, 85, passed away Jan. 9, 2013, at The Citadel Care Center in Mesa, Ariz.
Rosalie was born to Lezeth and Justice Bennett Jan. 22, 1927, in South Whitley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Garland and Jim Bennett and her husband, Robert.
Surviving relatives include her older brother, Chuck (Vesta) and their extended family; her sisters, Lavona Shelley and her extended family and Phyllis Joann Beck and her family.
January 31st
Cheryl Marie Targgart, 63, a resident of Churubusco and wife of Dan Targgart, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013.
Mrs. Targgart was born April 11, 1949, in Beech Grove, a daughter of the late Rev. Richard E. and Mabel V. (Morehead) Kistler.
Surviving relatives include her husband, three children, two brothers, three sisters and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Blue River Church of the Brethren with Pastor Craig Alan Myers officiating.
January 30th
William Wayne “Bill” May, 92, owner of Spring Creek Market, died at 8:24 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1921, in Monroe County, a son of Ernest and Rose (Smiley) May. Â
Bill served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in southern Indiana during the late 1930s and early 1940s.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1942, and served in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged from active service in 1945, and went to work for Phelps Dodge Corporation in Fort Wayne. Â
Agustin “Gus” Fuentes, 49, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013.
Born in Hicksville, OH, Agustin worked as a painter and was a member of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
He was a loving father and grandfather. Surviving relatives include his wife, Regina Villanueva of Columbia City; children, Krystal Fuentes of Ohio, Juan Villanueva, Angela Villanueva, Lupe Villanueva, Juana Calan, Kristy Villanueva and Victor Villanueva all of Fort Wayne; siblings, Hope, Anna, Linda, Corinna, Victor, David, Raul Jr.; father, Raul Sr. and 20 grandchildren.

Lois Suzanne “Suzy” Scott, 74, of Columbia City, passed away at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Born on Dec. 10, 1938, in Gary, she was the daughter of Lyman Walter and Mary Lucile (Rockenstein) Scott.
Lois spent her childhood in Columbia City and graduated from Columbia City Joint High with the Class of 1956. She attended St. Francis University and then moved to Las Vegas in 1971, returning to Columbia City in 1996. She was homemaker and a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City.
Doris L. Brandenburg, 85, of South Whitley died at 10:58 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester where she had been a resident since October.
She was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Whitley County, a daughter of the late Clair C. and Georgia Doris (Rubrake) Bishop.
Her formative years were spent in South Whitley. She graduated from South Whitley High School with the Class of 1945.
On March 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Floyd R. Brandenburg. They made their home in South Whitley. Mr. Brandenburg died Aug. 29, 2009.
Ruth A. Wilson, 96, formerly of South Whitley died at 1:55 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Covington Manor, Fort Wayne where she had been a resident for the past several years.
She was born Oct. 22, 1916, in South Whitley, a daughter of Arthur and Ellen (Enos) Swank. Her formative years were spent in South Whitley. She graduated from South Whitley High School.
On April 16, 1936, she was united in marriage to Cranston “Cack” Wilson. With the exception of one year in Fort Wayne, they have always lived in South Whitley. Mr. Wilson died Sept. 13, 1963.
January 25th
Harold L. Brower, 87, of Columbia City, passed away at 11 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at his home. Born May 5, 1925, in South Whitley, he was the son of Reed and Ida Irene(Rivet) Brower.
His early life was spent in Collamer. On Feb. 17, 1946, he married Grace L. Gaff in Huntington.
Following their marriage he and Grace established their first home in Larwill, before moving back to South Whitley in August 2000.
Stanley Ford Kistler, 77, of Pierceton, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Warsaw Meadows Care Center, Warsaw. Born Aug. 25, 1935, in Warsaw, he was the son of Floyd and Evelyn (Kilgore) Kistler.
He was a lifetime resident of Pierceton and he graduated from Pierceton High School. On April 4, 1970, he married Pamala Sue Krom at Zion Lutheran Church, Columbia City. He retired after 34 years of service in 2000 from Viking Inc., Columbia City as a supervisor. He was a member of Pierceton Presbyterian Church.
