COLUMBIA CITY â€” Arliss J. Myers, 84, a resident of Columbia City, died at 6:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at her home in Columbia City.
She was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Columbia Township, Whitley County a daughter of John and Pauline (Miller) Perry.
Her formative years were spent in Columbia Township. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1945.
On Jan. 15, 1946 she was united in marriage to Harold L. Myers. They made their home in Antwerp, Ohio until 1948 when they moved to a farm in Richland Township, Whitley County.
In 1953 they moved to their farm in Columbia Township.
Doris King, 86, a resident of Carmel and mother of Churubusco resident Jeanine Childs, passed away peacefully in her home at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. King was born Oct. 2, 1924 in Herrin, Ill. to the late James and Flora Armstrong Stubblefield.
Doris was a graduate of Asbury University and attended Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, KY.
She was a dedicated pastorâ€™s wife, and enjoyed flower gardening and taking care of her home and family.
Dorothy A. Calkins, 100, formerly of Indianapolis, died at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville.
Born Oct. 25, 1910 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Carl Edward and Barbara H. (Miller) Schaffner.
On Feb. 8, 1930, she married Edwin F. Calkins, Sr. in Indianapolis.
She is survived by daughters, Barbara M. Gillman of Columbia City and Lois Andrews of Gallaway, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Janice Calkins of Leesburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Kerry L. â€śSkipâ€ť Wolfe, 62, a lifelong resident of Columbia Township, Whitley County, died at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne where he was admitted the day before.
He was born Sept. 15, 1948, in Whitley County, a son of Kenneth M. and Marianne (Waters) Wolfe. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School.
On March 31, 1972 he was united in marriage to Rebecca S. Trimmer.
He was employed as a mechanic.
Jack Raymond Cramer, 83, died in peace while at home in Fort Myers, Fla. on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011.
Born Sept. 24, 1927, in Columbia City, he resided in Marysville, Wash. with his beloved wife, Alice Cramer, before settling in Fort Myers. Jack was a Retired Chief Petty Officer of the U.S. Navy.
After retirement, he worked in the retail food industry and lived for the love of golf. He was an avid golf enthusiast who achieved not only one hole-in-one, he proudly made three.
Edwin Walter Stemen, 85, of Columbia City, passed away at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011 at his home.
Born Nov. 11, 1925 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Herman Thaddeus and Chloie Helen (Drudge) Stemen.
He graduated from Elmhurst High School with the class of 1944.
He worked as an apprentice at Harvester before serving in the U.S. Air Force.
After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he was employed by the union at Harvester for eight years.
From 1954 until 1964, he worked at Coliseum Service and the Brake Stop before founding his own automobile service in 1964.
John Begley, 84, of Monticello, died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at his residence.
He was born July 10, 1927 in Beattyville, Ky. to the late Wilgus and Bertie Mae (Tirey) Begley.
His first marriage was to Regina Lillquist on July 17, 1948 in Guilford, CT. She preceded him in death Nov. 17, 1992. He then married the former Betty Allen Dec. 11, 1993 in Monticello, and she survives in Monticello.
Marilyn A. Darr, 92, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at Golden Years Nursing Home, Fort Wayne.
Born Jan. 21, 1919 in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Henry O. and Doris E. (Burnworth) Meier.
She was a lifetime resident of Whitley County and graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1937.
On Feb. 24, 1940, she married Eugene S. Darr, Sr. at Grace Lutheran Parish.
She retired from Victor Gasket, Churubusco in 1967. She was a member of Churubusco United Methodist Church and was the very first Girl Scout Leader in Churubusco.
Robert â€śBobâ€ť Lewis, 67, a resident of Columbia City, passed away unexpectedly June 23, 2011 in San Pedro, Calif.
Lewis, a native of Oklahoma, was born April 17, 1944.
A self-employed construction worker, he retired in 2005, and had lived most of his adult life in the Indianapolis and Peru areas.
He attended the New Hope Wesleyan Church, west of Columbia City.
On Dec. 31, 2007, he was married to Nancy Guisinger, and had lived in Columbia City since that time. She survives.
Diane Sue Kahlenbeck, 60, a resident of Green Township in Noble County and wife of Ned W. Kahlenbeck, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born Oct. 13, 1950 in Richmond, a daughter of Dwight and Alberta (Hackman) Lanman.
On Feb. 12, 2001, she married Ned W. Kahlenbeck, who survivies.
Also surviving are two daughters, Dawn Wolf of Fremont and Amber Stone of Garrett; her parents Dwight and Alberta Lanman of Angola; a sister Kitty Thompson of Arab, Ala.; a brother Dwight Lanman III of Angola; and three grandchildren.
