Ralph P. Zeigler, 85, of Churubusco, passed away peacefully in his barn on the Zeigler family farm at 12:48 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011.
Born April 25, 1926, in Smith Township, Whitley County, he was the son of Jessie and Lillie F. (Prough) Zeigler.
A lifetime resident of Whitley County, he graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1945.
On Oct. 5, 1946, he married V. Dolores Nicodemus at First Church of God, Columbia City.
A general farmer, he worked at Newhouser Hatchery, Fort Wayne and Farm Bureau Co-Op, delivering fuel oil for 17 years.
FORT WAYNE â€” Vivian G. Mohler, 89, of Fort Wayne, died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne where she had been a resident since Oct. 3.
She was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Harrington, Kan., a daughter of Homer B. and Hilda Mae (Magley) Reider.
As an infant, her family moved to Columbia City. She graduated from Columbia City High School.
On March 2, 1941 she was united in marriage to Elmer E. Mohler.
They made their home in Columbia City until December, 2001 when they moved to Fort Wayne.
Mr. Mohler preceded her in death March 31, 2002.
LIGONIER â€” Evelyn I. Fritz, 96, of Ligonier, died at 3:50 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Avalon Village, Ligonier where she had been a resident since 2009.
She was born Oct. 13, 1915, in Whitley County, a daughter of Joseph and Grace (Bennett) Cunningham.
Her formative years were spent in the Larwill area.
She completed her education at Larwill High School.
In 1947, she married A.A. â€śAquillaâ€ť Marker.
They made their home south of Etna. Mr. Marker died July 1, 1968.
She later married Ralph Fritz. They made their home in South Whitley.
Mr. Fritz died in 1983.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” David A. Heritier, 66, a Columbia City attorney, died at 6:22 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne where he was admitted Sept. 23 following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 24, 1945, in Indianapolis, a son of Claude Jules and Laura Ann (Bridges) Heritier M.D.
He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1963, received his B.A. in Sociology and a masterâ€™s degree in American Studies from Purdue University, completing his education at the School of Law at Valparaiso University.
Barbara J. Shumm, 90, of Fort Wayne, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011.
Born July 23, 1921, in Decatur, Barb was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. She also was a member of the Rosary Society and Beta Sigma Phi who enjoyed volunteering with different groups and organizations.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Steven) Smethers of Columbia City; sister, Mary Catherine Hain of Decatur; grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Gareiss, David (Jennifer) Gareiss and Kendra (Ehren) Siebert; and five great-grandchildren.
Gordon H. Anspach, 75, retired Columbia City police officer and former chief of police, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Millers Merry Manor, Columbia City where he was admitted Oct. 3, 2011.
He was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Fort Wayne, a son of the late Harold and Marie (Weitfeldt) Anspach.
As a young boy, the family moved to Thorncreek Township in Whitley County where he attended Thorncreek Elementary School.
He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1955.
On Sept. 13, 1958 he was united in marriage to Martha L. Hinen. They made their home in Columbia City.
Lynn E. Pequignot, 75, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011.
He was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Fort Wayne.
Lynn retired from Magnavox as an engineer. He was a U.S Army veteran and member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Lourine of Fort Wayne; daughters, Michelle Judd and Marla Fahl both of Columbia City; brothers, Lowell of Arizona and Larry of Illinois; step-son, Edward Palmer of Columbia City; step-daughter, Debra Hamilton of Tuscon, Ariz., four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
Ann R. Barrett, 94, a resident of Churubusco, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne following a brief illness.
Mrs. Barrett was born Nov. 1, 1916 in Bedford, a daughter of John Owen and Ruth (Kindred) Roberts, and graduated from Shawswick High School.
A nurse all of her adult life, she graduated from St. Vincentâ€™s School of Nursing in Indianapolis, later earned her bachelorâ€™s degree in nursing from Indiana University, and also earned a masterâ€™s degree in public health administration from the University of Michigan.
Clarence Randel Worley, Sr., 55, a resident of Churubusco, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at 10:46 a.m.
He was born Oct. 12, 1955 in Whitley City, Ky., a son of Garrett C. and Pearlie Ethel (Phillips) Worley.
He served in the U. S. Navy.
On June 6, 1994, he married Jacqueline Ann Guisinger who survives.
Catherine Beerman Avery, 88, a resident of Churubusco and widow of William J. Avery, Jr., passed away at 7:35 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at the Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.
Mrs. Avery was born in Fort Wayne on April 21, 1923, a daughter of William H.F. and Margaret C. (Voetter) Beerman.
She spent her early years in Fort Wayne, graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1941, and during World War II worked in civil service.
On Feb. 25, 1943, she was married in Fort Wayne to William J. Avery, Jr.
