H. Marie Howard, 83, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011 at 10 PM in Good Shepherd Hospice House, Sebring, Fla.
She was born Jan. 22, 1928 in Salyersville, Ky. to Kindle and Susie (Brown) England.
On Sept. 1, 1942 she was married to Hargus Howard.
Together they lived most of their lives in Silver Lake, where both were members of Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, Silver Lake. Hattie, a homemaker, also worked on the assembly line for DANA Corp.
Kenneth L. Frazier, 72, a resident of rural Churubusco in Allen County, passed away at 2:51 p. m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He had submitted to surgery earlier in the day, but his death was unexpected.
Mr. Frazier was born Sept. 27, 1938, a son of Leonard D. and H. Naomi (Gordon) Frazier.
He spent his formative years on the family farm in Eel River Township, and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1956.
On Nov. 15, 1957 he was married in Old Shanty Town, Ill. to Marilyn E. Eytcheson.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Alice F. Crawford, 65, of South Whitley, died at 3:24 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Matt & Marcia Crawford, with her family by her side.
She was born Aug. 8, 1946 in Sullivan County, a daughter of Cisco and Jeanette (White) May.
Her formative years were spent in Sullivan County. She graduated from Sullivan High School.
In 1964 she moved to Columbia City.
On Oct. 17, 1970, she was united in marriage to Larry L. Crawford. They have always made their home in South Whitley.
She was employed at Dwyer Instruments for 25 years.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Terry L. Austin, 64, formerly of South Whitley, most recently residing in Columbia City, died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011 pursuing his passion of golf at Sycamore Golf Club, North Manchester.
He had been battling cancer.
He was born Nov. 29, 1946 in Fort Wayne, a son of the late Jack D. and Verda J. (Mullinax) Austin.
His formative years were spent in South Whitley and he graduated from South Whitley High School in 1965. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Cincinnati and became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Gene D. Ward, 81, a Union Township, Whitley County native, died at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011 in the North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City, Mo.
Gene was born April 29, 1930 in Fort Wayne, a son of Hubert A. and Nora May (Miller) Ward.
His formative years were spent in Union Township, Whitley County. He graduated from Coesse High School in 1948.
On June 16, 1951 Gene Darwin Ward and Loretta May Miller where united in marriage.
The couple lived in Memphis, Tenn. and later Jacksonville, Fla. while Gene served in the Navy during the Korean War.
COLUMBIA CITY: James W. Wise, 97, of Etna Troy Township, Whitley County, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 23, 2011 at the Gulf Coast Village in Cape Coral, Fla.
He was born Oct. 15, 1913 in Etna Troy Township, a son of Earl and Samantha Hann (Snodgrass) Wise.
His formative years were spent in Etna Troy Township. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1932.
On July 12, 1940, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth L. Miller. They made their home at Old Lake until 1944 when they moved to their home on 350 West.
Mrs. Wise died June 13, 2004.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Kristopher Dallace Hazelbaker, 24, died at his home in South Whitley Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011.
He was born Dec. 17, 1986 in Marion County, a son of Tim W. and Patricia (Flowers) Hazelbaker.
On Sept. 30, 2010, he was united in marriage to Brittany Depew.
He is survived by his wife, Brittany; a step-daughter, Kassidie Depew; his parents, Tim and Patricia Hazelbaker, Lapel; two brothers, Travis Hazelbaker and T.J. Hazelbaker, Noblesville and two sisters, Tosha and Amanda Hazelbaker, Noblesville.
Private arrangements are by Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. â€” Donna Jean Chappell Kern Vorce, 78, of Canandaigua, N.Y., died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 in Canandaigua where she resided since July 9, 2000.
She was born in Whitley County on Sept. 17, 1932, the daughter of the late Thomas E. Chappell and Ruth M. Bills.
He formative years were spent in Milton, Pa. where she graduated from Milton High School June 1950.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Rickey T. â€śRickâ€ť Moyer, 57, of rural South Whitley, died Sunday evening, Aug. 21, 2011 in the emergency room at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was transported after becoming suddenly ill at his home.
He was born May 27, 1954 in Columbia City, a son of Joseph Denver and Mary Deloris (Anderson) Moyer.
His formative years were spent in rural South Whitley.
He graduated from Whitko High School.
On June 3, 1972 he was united in marriage to Jill E. Fry. They made their home south of South Whitley for the past 39 years.
Olive M. Tonkel, 87, a former resident of Collins and widow of Charles Merl Tonkel, Sr., passed away at 9:23 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at The Oaks in Columbia City.
She had been in declining health for some time, and had been a patient at the nursing home for the past six years.
Mrs. Tonkel was born in Fort Wayne May 3, 1924, a daughter of Lyman and Pauline (Sines) Blanchard.
She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne, and was married there on May 25, 1941 to Charles Merl Tonkel, Sr.
