Victoria Hanes, 50

Victoria L. “Vicki” Hanes, 50, of Huntington, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011. She was born April 15, 1961 to Doug and Judy (Koons) Bowyer. She worked for the United States Postal Service for the past 17 years and most recently as a Postmaster in Yoder and Bippus.
Surviving family include her husband, Dan Hanes; daughter, Amanda Hanes; step-son, Matt (Shannon) Hanes; parents, Doug (Judy) Bowyer; brother, Dave (Jill) Bowyer; grandmother, Patricia Koons; mother-in-law, Carolyn Springer; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen Whaley, 100

Helen M. Whaley, 100, widow of Waldo Whaley, died Friday, May 20, 2011 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City. Born Jan. 21, 1911 in Steuben County, she was a daughter of the late Morris W. and Anna L. (Goodrich) Hanson.
Survivors include a son, Lee (Pat) Whaley of South Whitley.
At Mrs. Whaley’s request there will be no visitation or service. Burial will be at a later date at Jamestown Cemetery in Steuben County.

Brent Bartol, 43

Brent William Bartol, 43, of Columbia City, died unexpectedly at 2:45 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2011 at Parkview Whitley Hospital Emergency Room, Columbia City. Born May 5, 1968, he was a son of William C. and Nancy A. (Stoll) Bartol.
Born in Fort Wayne, he graduated from Snider High School with the Class of 1987. He attended Ivy Tech Community College where he studied computer science. He worked as a service technician and technician manager for office equipment. He attended Columbia City United Methodist Church and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Nelson W. Keister, 89, of Columbia City (Tri-Lakes), died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the home of his son. He was born Nov. 25, 1921 in Merriam to the late Albert and Gertrude (Addis) Keister.

Mary J. Wells, 86

May 20, 2011

Mary J. Wells, 86, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at her residence.
Born Nov. 30, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Grace (DeGroot) Lewellen.
Survivors include her husband, William E. Wells; daughters, Lynn Miller, Dee Richhart and Vicky Stanley; and sons, Stephan Wells and Timothy Wells.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at C.M. Sloan & Sons, 1327 Wells St., Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Denny Coppens officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Marjorie Chidester, 85

Marjorie J. “Marge” Chidester, formerly of Fort Wayne, and currently a resident of Sarasota, Fla., died Thursday, May 12, 2011. Born July 23, 1925, she was a daughter of Charles V. and Carrie E. (Gallogly) David and a widow of John Chidester.
Survivors include a son, Dean J. Chidester.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 6700 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Pastor John Gardner of Plymouth Congregational Church of Christ officiating.

Marguerite Geisleman, 79, of Columbia City, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at her residence. Born July 28, 1931 in Allen County, she was a daughter of the late Charles M. and Eva (Clark) Winchester.

Earl Bromley, Sr., 51

May 19, 2011

Earl L. Bromley Sr., 51, of Noble County, died at 10:29 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his home. He had been battling cancer for the past three years.
He was born Feb. 12, 1960 in Columbia City, a son of Floyd and Evlon (Harrington) Bromley. His formative years were spent in Noble County. He completed his education at West Noble High School.
On July 29, 1983 he was united in marriage to Linda S. Wade. They made their home in Whitley and Kosciusko Counties before moving to Noble County in 1991.
He was a member of Ormas Baptist Church and a lifetime member of North American Hunt Club.

Raymond Crain, 87

Raymond A. Crain, 87 of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 in Tennessee. A veteran of the Army Air Corps, he served in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Crain; children, Susie Stonert, Lynda Gilbert, Pam Crain, Jim Crain; and stepson, Ron Kramer.

Nancy Wallace, 80

Nancy S. Wallace, 80, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Born in Whitley County, Wallace worked as a teller with Indiana Bank/Summit Bank for 12 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member and a volunteer at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. “Nancy was a loving mother, grandmother and a friend to all. She will be greatly missed.”
Surviving are her daughter, Cheryl S. Burns of Albion; grandchildren, Cari and Tom (Whitney) Burns; great-grandchild, Evan Burns; brother, Lynn Pendry of Alaska; and sister, Shirley Hurley of Florida.
