SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Richard A. Shilling, 83, formerly of South Whitley, died at 2:42 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, in Kosciusko Community Hospital.
He had been in failing health.
He was born Dec. 16, 1927 in DeKalb County, a son of the late Howard and Ethel (Barrows) Shilling.
His formative years were spent in DeKalb County and he graduated from Spencerville High School.
He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 12, 1946 and was honorably discharged Dec. 24, 1946.
On Nov. 27, 1948, he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Gibson.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Donald E. Brown, 95, of South Whitley, died at 5:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at Covington Manor, Fort Wayne where he had been a resident for the past six weeks.
He was born April 6, 1916 in North Manchester, a son of William and Goldia Opal (Brooks) Brown.
As a small child, his family moved to Disko and later Burket where he attended school for eight years.
He then moved to Silver Lake and he completed his education at Silver Lake High School.
On Sept. 28, 1937, he was united in marriage to Berniece E. Meloy.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Jimmy â€śJimâ€ť Ross Brown, 75, formerly of rural Pierceton died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at Parkview Main Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born May 11, 1936 in Kendallville, a son of Ernest and Virgina (Speaker) Brown.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Annie Mae North of Claypool; three sons, Everett Lester, Claypool, Cheyenne Brown, Derby, Kan. and Dennis Brown, Warsaw; 7 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Terry L. McCoy, 42, of Columbia City, passed away at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at his residence.
Born Jan. 16, 1969 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Paul E. McCoy and Penny D. (Byerley) Favory.
He graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1988.
He received an Associates Degree in Biblical Studies from Word for the World Bible College in 2009.
On May 1, 2006 he married Rebecca Didier in Columbia City.
He owned and operated Prevailâ€™s Auto Body Shop in Columbia City.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, guitar and gardening.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Betty Lou McClellan, 79, of Churubusco, died at 9:08 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born May 27, 1932 in Noble County, a daughter of Hugh P. and Lois L. (Jagger) Gandy.
Her formative years were spent in Merriam.
She graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1950.
On Aug. 5, 1950, she was united in marriage to Santford S. McClellan Jr.
They made their home in Columbia City, and later Merriam.
In 1962 they moved to Ari and in 2000 to their home in Churubusco.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Thelma E. Reed Veitch, 95, formerly of Big Lake, died at 9:04 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 at Dupont Hospital, Fort Wayne where she was admitted the day before.
She was born Jan. 6, 1916 in Noble County, a daughter of Samuel Delbert and Lola A. (Wilkerson) Paulus.
Her formative years were spent in Noble County. She graduated from Wolf Lake High School.
She worked at Blue Bell, Grantâ€™s Warehouse in Fort Wayne and assisted at Reedâ€™s Shoe Store.
Following her graduation from Fort Wayne Beauty College in 1967, she worked for Evelyn Street until 1978.
CANDLER FLA. â€” Arlene Anderson, 72 of Candler, Fla. passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2011 at Tuscany House Hospice in Summerfield, Fla.
She was born Aug. 3, 1938 in Amline, Ohio and moved to Candler, Fla. in 1979 from Port Charlotte, Fla.
She attended Faith Baptist Church and was a great supporter of mission work.
She and her husband were members of the Goldwing Riders Association.
Arlene loved sewing, cooking, traveling, camping, water skiing and boating, but most of all she loved spending time with her loving family and friends.
Hazel Marie Rathbun, 101, of Columbia City, passed away at 7:25 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011 at The Oaks, Columbia City.
Born Oct. 5, 1909 in Thorncreek Township, she was the daughter of Frank and Desta Fidela (Ummel) Kneller.
She was educated in the public schools of Thorncreek Township and Columbia City.
On April 28, 1928, she married J. Lewis Rathbun south of Collamer.
Mr. Rathbun preceded her in death Oct. 1, 1988.
Jeremiah James Setser, 20, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011 at 12:58 a.m. as the result of an automobile accident in Whitley County.
He was born March 30, 1991 in Columbia City.
The son of Darvin D. and Mary (Hite) Setser, he was a 2009 graduate of Whitko High School.
Jeremiah enjoyed life in general, but he especially enjoyed being an active participant in truck pulls, working on trucks and when younger, horseback riding.
He had a good sense of humor. Jeremiah was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
H. Marie Howard, 83, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011 at 10 PM in Good Shepherd Hospice House, Sebring, Fla.
She was born Jan. 22, 1928 in Salyersville, Ky. to Kindle and Susie (Brown) England.
On Sept. 1, 1942 she was married to Hargus Howard.
Together they lived most of their lives in Silver Lake, where both were members of Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, Silver Lake. Hattie, a homemaker, also worked on the assembly line for DANA Corp.
