Jason Warren Tester, 36, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at his home. Born Aug. 13, 1974 in Columbia City, he was a son of Randy Dow and Deborah Sue (Bender) Tester.
He lived in Allen and Whitley Counties, graduating from Homestead High School with the Class of 1994. An avid cook, he worked at several local restaurants. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish.
Patricia Ann â€śPattyâ€ť Nicodemus, 57, of Columbia City, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. Born in Wolf Lake, May 29, 1953 she was a daughter of Roderick C. and Martha Jane (Friskney) Johnson.
Richard V. â€śRVâ€ť Reed, 86, former principal of Whitko High School, died at his home in South Whitley at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. He had been in failing health.
He was born Oct. 5, 1924 in South Bend, a son of Vern W. and Mary (Tyndall) Reed. His formative years were spent in Spencerville and he graduated from St. Joe High School. He graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture/chemistry. He completed his masters of education degree at Ball State University.
Sally (Gilbert) Gardner, 75, a native of Churubusco and more recently of Winona Lake, passed away unexpectedly at 4:05 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Grace Village Assisted Living in Winona Lake.
Born in Churubusco Aug. 10, 1935, she was a daughter of Jasper L. and Helen (Rowland) Gilbert. She was a widow of Leo Gardner.
Survivors include three children, Charles J. Brown, James L. Brown and Charlene L. Samson; and two brothers, Gordon Gilbert and Rowland Gilbert.
At the request of the family, there will be no services or calling hours.
Gertrude A. Vaughn, 96, peacefully went into the arms of her Lord, Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Towne House Health and Rehabilitation Home, Fort Wayne.
Born in her family home near Arcola, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Mary (Bergman) Gerding and was the oldest member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne before the family moved to New Haven. She married Marion E. Vaughn March 31, 1940 who preceded her in death in 1985.
C. Wayne Jenkins, 95, formerly of South Whitley, died at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Engelwood Health and Rehabilitation, Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 3, 1915 in South Whitley, a son of Ralph and Hope (Keel) Jenkins. He spent his formative years in the Sidney area. He graduated from Sidney High School.
On Feb. 15, 1936, he was united in marriage to Lucile G. Freed. They made their home in Silver Lake for five years and Wabash County for six years before moving to Cleveland Township in 1947. Mrs. Jenkins died Feb. 6, 2008.
Sheila S. West-Wilhelm, 40, of Columbia City, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at her residence. She was born Sept. 13, 1970 to William C. and Rozella M. (Wince) Wicker.
She was a lifetime Columbia City resident and attended Columbia City High School. She was employed at Home Nursing of Fort Wayne as a home health aide. On April 8, 2005 she married Neil Wilhelm in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Mary Ann T. Harvey, 76, of Decatur died Monday, March 7, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Gary of Decatur; three daughters; two sons, including Brian Harvey; and one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Maryâ€™s Catholic Church, with Father David Voors officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur.
Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.
Helen M. Furnas, 81, formerly of Columbia City, died at 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Peabody Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since 2002.
She was born Aug. 2, 1929 in Cass County, Mich., a daughter of Floyd and Helen Margaret (Kantz) Adams. Her formative years were spent in Michigan. She graduated from Constantine High School.
On Oct. 22, 1949 she was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Furnas. They made their home in Fort Wayne until 1964 when they moved to rural Columbia City. Mr. Furnas died April 5, 1995.
Mary J. Shipman, 89, of Columbia City passed away at 9:45 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Sept. 1, 1921 in Provo, Utah, she was a daughter of Frank and Harriett (Richmond) Speckart.
She had been a Columbia City resident since 2009 moving from Florida and a prior resident of Provo, Utah. She graduated from Provo High School with the Class of 1939 and two years at Brigham Young University. On June 22, 1941, she married Robert L. Shipman in Provo.
