Sheila S. West-Wilhelm, 40, of Columbia City, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at her residence. She was born Sept. 13, 1970 to William C. and Rozella M. (Wince) Wicker.
She was a lifetime Columbia City resident and attended Columbia City High School. She was employed at Home Nursing of Fort Wayne as a home health aide. On April 8, 2005 she married Neil Wilhelm in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Mary Ann T. Harvey, 76, of Decatur died Monday, March 7, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Gary of Decatur; three daughters; two sons, including Brian Harvey; and one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Maryâ€™s Catholic Church, with Father David Voors officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur.
Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.
Helen M. Furnas, 81, formerly of Columbia City, died at 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Peabody Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since 2002.
She was born Aug. 2, 1929 in Cass County, Mich., a daughter of Floyd and Helen Margaret (Kantz) Adams. Her formative years were spent in Michigan. She graduated from Constantine High School.
On Oct. 22, 1949 she was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Furnas. They made their home in Fort Wayne until 1964 when they moved to rural Columbia City. Mr. Furnas died April 5, 1995.
Mary J. Shipman, 89, of Columbia City passed away at 9:45 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Sept. 1, 1921 in Provo, Utah, she was a daughter of Frank and Harriett (Richmond) Speckart.
She had been a Columbia City resident since 2009 moving from Florida and a prior resident of Provo, Utah. She graduated from Provo High School with the Class of 1939 and two years at Brigham Young University. On June 22, 1941, she married Robert L. Shipman in Provo.
Samuel W. Baxter, 80, of Warsaw, died at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw.
Born Sept. 17, 1930 in Salem, he was a son of Ben and Nellie (Walton) Baxter. He lived most of his life in the Warsaw area. He married Mary Lou Schrader June 23, 1948 in the Larwill Methodist parsonage.
He was a salesman for Whitley County Motor Sales retiring after 26 years June 1, 1995. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Warsaw and he loved his dog, Tippy.
Robert L. Adams, 93, of Sebring, Florida died on March 3, 2011. He had lived at the Palms of Sebring in Florida and was receiving Good Shepherd Hospice Care.
He was born in Van Buren Township, Putnam County, Ohio to Virgil and Ruth Adams. The family moved to Indiana in 1927 and Robert graduated from Lapaz High School, Lapaz in 1935. He married Mary E. Martin Dec. 11, 1937. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary just before she died March 9, 2010.
James W. Tomlinson, Sr., 75, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 8:45 a.m. March 3, 2011, at North Ridge Village Nursing Home, Albion. Born Dec. 2, 1935, he was a son of Wesley and Amy (Helmes) Tomlinson.
He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1967. He was married to the late Ellen (Genda) Herendeen.
Survivors include his daughters, Debra Dellinger and Shelley Mawhorter; son, Robert Tomlinson; sister, Celia Miller; step-sons, Walter Herendeen and John Herendeen.
Gregory D. Johnson, 57, of Warsaw, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Sept. 2, 1953 in Huntington, he was a son of David Ralph â€śBoagâ€ť and Mary Ellen (Robinson) Johnson, Sr.
He was a construction worker and cement finisher for many years.
Besides his mother, survivors include a son, Wesley C. Johnson of Warsaw; three sisters, Jorie (James) Webster of Warsaw, Kristine (Larry) Ummel of Kimmel and Leslie (Ray) Barna of Vandalia, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his father on July 11, 2005 and a brother, David Johnson, Jr., Jan. 18, 1969.
Pauline McGuire, 90, a resident of rural Churubusco and wife of Carl McGuire, passed away at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the family residence in Smith Township following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. McGuire was born in Churubusco May 9, 1920, a daughter of Charles and Alice (Wappes) Weidman, and spent all of her life in this area.
On May 8, 1943 she was married in Churubusco to Carl McGuire. The couple lived in Green Township in Noble County for a period, and have lived at their present farm home in Smith Township since 1949.
Ralph Whaley, 80, a resident of rural Albion, passed away at 9:42 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Whaley was born March 22, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio, and spent his formative years there. As a young man he served with the United States Army, and later reenlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
