Roger Schrader, 77

Roger A. Schrader, 77, a lifelong resident of Union Township, died Monday evening, Sept. 1, 2014.
He was born Jan. 24, 1937, in Whitley County a son of Charles E. and Mary C.P. (Gaff) Schrader. He graduated from Coesse High School.
On June 4, 1960, he was united in marriage to Lucille C. Yates. In 1964, they moved to their present home.
He was employed at International Harvester, Fortmeyer Tire Center, Whitley County Jail and Harris Kayot.

Alton Parker, 89

Alton W. Parker, 89, a resident of rural Albion and widely acquainted York Township farmer, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Prescense Sacred Heart Home in Avilla following an extended illness.
Mr. Parker was born in Wolf Lake Jan. 13, 1925, a son of J. D. and Doris (Wiley) Parker.

Barbara Lancaster, 79

Barbara J. Lancaster, 79, of South Whitley, died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, after being transported from Miller’s Merry Manor where she had been a resident since 2011.
She was born Jan. 30, 1935, in Culver, a daughter of the late Michael and Thelma (Rose) Bernhard.
She began her education in Culver. The family then moved to Laud and later to South Whitley. She attended South Whitley High School. At age 39, she received her GED.

Ada R. Wood, 79, of Columbia City, passed away 5:07 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at her residence.
Born Jan. 9, 1935, in Columbia City, she was the daughter of Ora William and Bessie E. (Zolman) Dowell.
She graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1953 and then attended Parkview Methodist School of Nursing, where she graduated with the Class of 1956.
Ada married Jim Wood Sept. 8, 1956 in Columbia City.
She was a member of Mission Church, Fort Wayne, and Delta Theta Tau member-at-large. Ada also enjoyed reading in her free time.

Raymond G. Shoda

Raymond G. Shoda, 74, of Perrysburg, Ohio and formerly of Columbia City, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee, Ohio.
Born Oct. 14, 1939, in Columbia City, he was the son of William R. (Ben) and Edith Irene (Gay) Shoda.
He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1957.
Raymond proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1965.
He spent his lifetime in Columbia City until 2003 when he moved to Perrysburg, Ohio.

Billy Horn, 77

Billy D. Horn, 77, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at 7:05 a.m. in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
Billy was born Aug. 10, 1937, in Mentone, to Dwayne and Maxine (Wideman) Horn.
He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Billy took Patricia A. Fancil to be his wife. She would precede him in death.
In 1987 he retired from Gladieux Refinery, in New Haven, as a diesel mechanic after 27 years of service.

Lavonne Irene Hobbs Galway, 86, of Columbia City, passed away peacefully of kidney failure at 7:21 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Parkview Whitley Hospital.
Born on March 4, 1928, in Grant County, she was the daughter of Noble D. and Dorothy O. (Long) Hobbs.
She had lived in Columbia City since 2001. Prior to her move, the majority of her life was spent in Marion.
She graduated from Marion High School with the Class of 1946 and Marion Business College where she studied business.

Robert Rucker, 84

Robert H. Rucker, 84, formerly of rural Columbia City, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he was transported Sunday from Markle Health & Rehab.
He was born July 26, 1930, in Champagne County, Ohio, a son of William E. and Josephine (Hart) Rucker. His formative years were spent in Ironton and Springfield, Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 12, 1951, until Aug. 1, 1953, serving during the Korean War.
On April 5, 1968, he was united in marriage to Sharon L. Braddock. They made their home in Whitley County.

William Howard Clark, 64, of Larwill, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 at 11:46 p.m. in his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 5, 1949, in Lynch, Ky. to Oscar Howard and Grace Ellen (Cody) Clark.
He was united in marriage to Shirley (Wyland) Dec. 21, 1974, in Pierceton. He was retired in 2001. He attended the Larwill Wesleyan Church of Larwill.
He enjoyed lawn care and mowing, working on automobiles, spending time with his family and helping others, be it home or auto repair or offering guidance. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
