Iola M. Hanauer, 85

Iola M. Hanauer, 85, a former resident of Columbia City, died at 6:58 p.m. Saturday Jan. 3, 2015 at Heritage Park Nursing Home, Fort Wayne.
She was born Dec. 22, 1929 in Madison County, a daughter of Virgil E. and Lillian Esther (Mumaugh) Burelison. Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne where she attended Concordia Lutheran High School.
In May 1949, she was united in marriage to Wilfred Junior Hanauer. For 37 years they made their home in Columbia City. Mr. Hanauer died Dec. 2002.

Richard E. Hyser, 60, of Columbia City, passed away at 3:48 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2015 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Born Sept. 23, 1954 in Whitley County, he was the son of Robert R. Hyser and Wilma (Love) Hyser-Clark.

Ralph Eugene Deck, Sr.

Ralph Eugene Deck, Sr., of Albion, passed away at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at his home south of Wolf Lake.
Ralph was born May 25, 1929 to George Garrison and Elmira Mae (Rollins) Deck in Oakwood, Ohio. Later the family moved to Churubusco, where he grew up. To family and friends he came to be known as “Popeye.”
Ralph joined the Air Force in 1951 and served his country for 17 years, including 10 years in Foreign Service. He was a Staff Sergeant when he was honorably discharged in 1968.
Ralph married Vada Ilene Smeltzer Jan. 5, 1957 in Churubusco.

Juanita J. Krider, 102, of Collins, died at 6:43 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 at her home.
She was born May 17, 1912 in Noble County, a daughter of Clarence and Rista (Winebrenner) Friend. Her formative years were spent in Merriam. She graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1931.
On April 6, 1935 she was united in marriage to Clyde LeRoy Krider Sr. They made their home in South Whitley until 1939 when they moved to their home south of Collins. Mr. Krider died in Sept. 1981.
Her memberships include Collins United Methodist Church.

Edith Fay Walker, 93, of South Whitley, died at 9:54 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 in the emergency room of Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.
She was born Dec. 9, 1921 in Whitley County, a daughter of Archie and Maggie (Egolf) Coverstone. Her formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township and she completed her education at Columbia City High School.
On Nov. 9, 1940 she was united in marriage to Edward A. Walker. They made their home in Columbia City until 1957 when they moved to South Whitley. Mr. Walker died Aug. 28, 2008.

Anise B. Dicke, 89, passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 at Emeritus in Fort Wayne. Born in Columbia City, Anise began her RN career at Lutheran Hospital finishing most of her 48 working years at Parkview Hospital, and retiring in 1994.

Tommy “Butch” Smith, 65

Tommy “Butch” Lee Smith, 65, of Albion, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville, exactly seven years to the day of being diagnosed with cancer. Born in Wolf Lake July 7, 1949, he was the son of Thomas A. and Mildred J. (Waters) Smith.
Butch spent his childhood in Wolf Lake and graduated from Wolf Lake High School with the Class of 1967 and served in the Army National Guard.

Neil T. Shrock, 43, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 at his residence. He was born Sept. 2, 1971 in Naples, Italy.
Neil enjoyed working at SDI for the past 19 years, but most importantly he valued the friendships that he made with his co-workers. Neil was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Detroit Tigers and enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events, concerts and in general spending time with his family.

Deloris F. Frane, 87, of Columbia City, passed away at 6:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born March 25, 1927 in Auburn, she was the daughter of Glen and Io Evalyn (Bilderback) Stanton.
Deloris married Darwin Frane Dec. 29, 1986 and had worked at L.S. Ayres and Macy’s for over 10 years in Fort Wayne. In 2009, she moved to Columbia City from Fort Wayne. “She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.”
